What You'll Do:
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on regulatory and compliance matters impacting our Retail business, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and industry best practices.
- Develop and implement proactive compliance strategies that address product safety, environmental standards, advertising and labeling regulations, and supply chain integrity, ensuring compliance with key regulatory frameworks such as FDA food and supplement requirements, FTC advertising standards, EPA chemical regulations, CPSC product safety rules, and other federal and state-level regulations.
- Establish efficient compliance frameworks and audit mechanisms that streamline regulatory tracking, risk assessments, and internal controls, reducing reliance on reactive and manual processes.
- Engage directly with regulators and industry stakeholders, managing inquiries, audits, recalls, and compliance-related disclosures to safeguard business operations and mitigate risk.
- Partner with internal teams-including merchandising, private brands, marketing, and supply chain-to embed compliance considerations into contracting, product sourcing, and development and go-to-market strategies, ensuring that product claims, safety measures, and supply chain due diligence align with regulatory expectations.
- Communicate complex legal and regulatory concepts clearly and effectively to senior business leaders, influencing decision-making and ensuring alignment with compliance priorities.
What You'll Need:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing or eligibility to obtain a house counsel license.
- 8+ years of regulatory compliance experience, preferably in an in-house role within e-commerce, or retail.
- Demonstrated expertise in regulatory risk management, compliance program development, and policy implementation.
- Strong ability to analyze complex regulatory requirements, translate them into practical business solutions, and drive cross-functional execution.
- Experience engaging with regulators such as the FDA, FTC, EPA, and CPSC and state-level equivalents, and managing compliance-related inquiries, audits, and reporting.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and foster a culture of compliance.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Some travel may be required.
