About the Role
Global Payments is seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to own the end-to-end hardware strategy for Genius POS Small Business — our flagship point-of-sale platform serving small businesses across multiple continents. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of product, commercial, and operations, with direct influence on how Genius hardware is designed, sourced, certified, deployed, and managed at scale worldwide.
You will define the global hardware roadmap, establish principles for device lifecycle management, develop scalable partner integration frameworks, and ensure the platform can absorb regional complexity without sacrificing reliability or unit economics. You will work closely with regional general managers, engineering leads, supply chain, commercial teams, and technology partners to bring this strategy to life.
Why This Role Matters
Genius POS serves hundreds of thousands of small businesses globally — hardware is the front door to that relationship.
The company is accelerating international expansion; getting the hardware platform right now has compounding impact.
This PM will set the architecture-level decisions (device management, partner APIs, certification frameworks) that others build on for years.
Direct exposure to executive leadership and cross-regional P&L owners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Global Hardware Strategy
Own and maintain the multi-year global hardware roadmap for Genius POS Small Business, aligning device portfolio decisions with regional market requirements, competitive dynamics, and platform economics.
Define the device portfolio strategy — determining which form factors (countertop, mobile, kiosk, integrated) are prioritised per geography, and managing the trade-offs between standardisation and local market fit.
Lead make/buy/partner decisions for hardware components and full device solutions, working with procurement, legal, and finance to evaluate total cost of ownership across regions.
Define regional hardware go-to-market playbooks in partnership with commercial and country leads, covering pricing, bundling, and channel strategy for owned-and-operated vs. partner-distributed markets.
2. Device Management Principles & Platform
Define the principles and requirements for a scalable device management platform — covering provisioning, configuration management, remote diagnostics, OTA firmware updates, and end-of-life decommissioning.
Own the device lifecycle policy: from initial onboarding through active fleet management, break/fix processes, and secure retirement — ensuring consistency across regions while accommodating local operational realities.
Partner with engineering to establish Device Management and Monitoring requirements, driving vendor selection and integration into the Genius platform.
Define security principles for device integrity: secure boot, tamper detection, key management, and attestation — working with security and compliance teams to ensure PCI P2PE and PTS requirements are met globally.
Develop KPIs and telemetry standards for device health monitoring, enabling proactive fleet management and reducing merchant downtime.
3. Scalable Platform Integration
Own the hardware compatibility matrix and manage the testing and certification pipeline for new devices, peripherals (printers, scanners, cash drawers, PIN pads), and connectivity stacks (Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth, Ethernet).
Work with engineering and cloud infrastructure teams to define edge computing, offline resilience, and sync requirements — ensuring Genius hardware performs reliably in environments with intermittent connectivity.
Drive platform integration across the payment acceptance stack: ensuring hardware supports current and emerging payment methods (contactless, QR, BNPL, digital wallets) as mandated by regional acquiring networks.
Establish a hardware release management process that coordinates firmware, SDK, and platform software releases to avoid regressions in the deployed fleet.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership & Governance
Act as the single point of accountability for hardware strategy decisions, creating clarity and alignment across engineering, commercial, operations, finance, and regional teams.
Run the global hardware council or equivalent governance forum, bringing together regional PMs and stakeholders to review roadmap priorities, surface conflicts, and escalate decisions appropriately.
Develop and maintain a hardware investment framework that enables resource allocation decisions across competing regional and platform priorities.
Represent hardware strategy in executive and board-level reviews, translating technical decisions into business impact narratives.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Must-Have
7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years owning a hardware or hardware-adjacent product in payments, fintech, retail tech, or a related industry.
Demonstrated experience defining global product strategies across multiple geographies, with an understanding of how regulatory, commercial, and operational contexts differ by region.
Proven track record of managing hardware partner or OEM relationships — including running technical evaluations, commercial negotiations, and certification programmes.
Strong working knowledge of payment hardware standards: PCI PTS, EMV (contact, contactless, QR), P2PE, and regional acquiring mandates.
Experience working with device management platforms (MDM/RMM) or defining requirements for fleet management at scale.
Demonstrated ability to work across engineering, commercial, and operations teams — translating business requirements into technical specifications and vice versa.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; comfortable presenting to executive leadership and operating in matrixed global organisations.
Highly Desirable
Experience with point-of-sale hardware ecosystems — countertop terminals, mobile POS, integrated payment peripherals.
Familiarity with Android-based payment device development (application signing, device hardening, managed launcher frameworks).
Exposure to supply chain, logistics, or procurement processes for physical hardware — particularly in multi-region deployment contexts.
Experience building or scaling a hardware certification or ISV partner programme.
Prior experience at a payments acquirer, payment facilitator, or fintech platform company operating at significant merchant scale.

Strategic hardware product thinking
Global regulatory & compliance awareness
Device lifecycle & fleet management
Cross-functional alignment & leadership
Technical depth in hardware/software integration
