Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior SQL Developer to join our team in Dublin, Dundrum Business Park.

You will be working on an advanced financial software platform designed for investment management firms. Our powerful platform integrates portfolio management, order management, electronic trading, compliance, and risk into a unified solution, covering the entire investment cycle from order origination to compliance-checking and trade execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, architecture, and optimization of SQL Server databases to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Diagnose and resolve performance degradation related to SQL Server upgrades or compatibility level changes across major versions.

  • Investigate and tune queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies using query hints, execution plan analysis, and performance monitoring tools.

  • Profile and troubleshoot SQL Server performance problems, working closely with infrastructure and DBA teams to identify root causes and apply fixes.

  • Maintain deep technical insight into SQL Server internals, including query execution pipeline, statistics, and cost-based optimization.

  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting the Security Master platform.

  • Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable code using C# and .NET 8 / ASP.NET Core.

  • Participate in system modernization initiatives, refactoring .NET Framework 4.8 / WCF components to modern .NET Core microservices.

  • Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet functional and performance goals.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, GitLab CI) and support automation, deployment, and monitoring activities.

  • Provide production support and actively participate in root cause analysis of incidents.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend software development experience

  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2016+), including:

    • Database architecture and schema design for enterprise applications

    • Deep understanding of SQL Server internals (optimizer, statistics, memory grants, plan cache, I/O, concurrency)

    • Troubleshooting performance problems and identifying regressions caused by version upgrades or compatibility level changes

    • Working with different compatibility modes and resolving associated query behaviour differences

    • Fine-tuning queries and stored procedures using hints, query plans, and dynamic management views (DMVs)

    • Experience with index strategies, partitioning, and isolation levels for high-performance transaction processing

  • Solid experience with C#, .NET 8 / ASP.NET Core; understanding of legacy .NET Framework 4.8 and WCF services.

  • Good understanding of multi-tier, distributed architectures, message queues, and microservices.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (TeamCity, GitLab CI) and Git workflows.

  • Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes is a plus.

  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
