Job DescriptionWise is on a mission to facilitate borderless transactions – instant, transparent, and eventually free. As we process over $100 billion annually for 16+ million customers, our cloud infrastructure is a critical investment. This role directly supports our mission of eventually making transfers free by identifying optimisation opportunities across our substantial cloud footprint. Every percentage point of efficiency you help us achieve translates to millions in savings that can be passed on to customers through lower fees.

Our Cloud Economics team plays a critical role in optimising our cloud infrastructure spend, ensuring we're getting the best return on investment as we scale globally. We support engineering teams to make cost-effective decisions that align with our mission of eventually making money transfers free.
The Cloud Economics Analyst Role:
As our first dedicated analyst in the Cloud Economics space, you'll help transform how we approach cloud cost optimisation across Wise. Your analytical expertise will be instrumental in identifying efficiency gains, building forecasting models, and implementing data validation processes that directly impact our and mission.

What will you be working on?
Unit Cost Optimisation
Develop and enhance monthly unit cost reviews with deeper analytics
Create dashboards that provide visibility into cloud spend at tribe, squad, and team levels
Partner with finance to bridge the gap between cloud costs and financial stakeholders
Forecasting & Reporting
Build sophisticated forecasting models for cloud spend across AWS and GCP
Implement reliable reporting for engineering and product leads showing month-on-month, quarter-on-quarter, and year-on-year trends
Create executive-level reporting that connects cloud economics to business outcomes
Data Quality & Automation
Improve Airflow data pipelines with robust checks and validation processes
Implement automation to identify cost anomalies and optimisation opportunities
Enhance data allocation models to accurately attribute costs to the right teams
Compute Resource Optimisation
Analyse usage patterns to identify opportunities for rightsizing and waste reduction
Provide recommendations on reserved instances, savings plans, and spot instances
Work with engineering teams to optimise storage tiering, ARM adoption, and RDS usage
Technical Skills:
Proficient in SQL and data visualisation tools such as Looker, CloudZero, or similar platforms
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and understanding of their cost structures
Ability to build and manage data pipelines using tools like DBT and Airflow
Proficient in Python for data analysis, automation, and forecasting models
Soft Skills:
Curiosity: A desire to learn about cloud infrastructure, cost optimisation patterns, and financial operations (FinOps)
Strategic Influence: Exceptional capacity to build trust and influence across engineering teams without relying on formal authority, communicating complex cost concepts clearly
Adaptive Mindset: A commitment to 'strong opinions, weakly held', actively seeking out challenging perspectives and finding middle ground
