Role overview

The Project Senior Lead is a strategic professional who closely follows the latest trends in project management and financial services, adapting them for application within the business. This role represents a high level of expertise within the organization, requiring excellent communication and diplomacy skills to negotiate, guide, influence, and convince others—particularly senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners.

The successful candidate will be accountable for significant direct business results, provide authoritative operational advice, and hold responsibility over technical and execution strategies. This role primarily affects a key sub-function and includes staff management responsibilities, resource allocation, and workload management within the project team.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management, execution, milestone tracking, and budget management of multiple complex, high-priority projects.
  • Identify key stakeholders and organizations to build, manage, and leverage strong professional relationships.
  • Direct the creation of multiple workstreams and ensure their close alignment with overarching business goals and technical strategies.
  • Lead the facilitation, coordination, and arbitration of macro-level, cross-functional topics across projects and with Senior Management.
  • Proactively identify and drive the resolution of complex issues, including those falling outside established project boundaries.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure project scope meets business objectives, and collaborate with Project Sponsors to align business cases and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Drive strict adherence to project processes, procedures, methodologies, and delivery standards, leveraging best practices across the portfolio.
  • Assist project teams in negotiating for resources owned by other departments to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Direct the timely communication of project status, issues, and risk disposition to all stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Direct the identification of risks impacting delivery, ensure robust mitigation strategies are executed, and escalate program risks to the Program Director or Sponsor when appropriate.
  • Appropriately assess risk during business decisions, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding the organization, its clients, and assets. Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to policy and applying sound ethical judgment.
     
Qualifications
  • Extensive, proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex, large-scale projects within the financial services sector, with a strong mastery of project management methodologies, governance, and delivery frameworks.
  • Prior experience or a strong background in Securities Services (e.g., Custody, Fund Services, Clearing, Settlement, or Issuer Services) is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of financial institution business models, related economics, and market trends, acting as a subject matter expert in multiple skill sets, business areas, or products.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and diplomacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and guide senior-level stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven capability in staff management, resource allocation, and fostering collaborative, high-performing project teams.
  • Advanced and comprehensive understanding of concepts and procedures within project management, with the ability to resolve issues that have a broad impact beyond the immediate area.
