Why this role exists
ABC Fitness builds the software that powers fitness businesses worldwide — across Glofox, Ignite and Trainerize. Our design function is at an inflection point, and this role exists to lead it through two defining shifts.
First, we are consolidating multiple mature, independently-grown design systems into a single, unified ABC design system. Second, we are rethinking how design operates in an AI-native world — how we work, and how every other function collaborates with us. This is a senior individual-contributor leadership role for someone energised by systems thinking and by pioneering how design and engineering work together. It is not a role for someone waiting to be handed a backlog of screens.
The two initiatives you will lead
Design system consolidation. Lead the consolidation of our legacy design systems across Glofox, Ignite and Trainerize into one unified ABC design system. You will define the architecture, tokens, components and governance — deciding what to standardise, what to preserve, and how to sequence adoption without stalling product teams.
AI in design operations. Define and advance how our design org uses AI across the workflow — from ideation and prototyping through to handoff — and set the standard for how Product, Engineering and other functions collaborate with Design when using AI-generated designs and prototypes.
What you will do
Own the vision, architecture and roadmap for the unified ABC design system, and drive its adoption across product teams.
Partner closely with Engineering on the design-to-code pipeline — Figma Dev Mode, Code Connect, MCP-based workflows and Storybook — so components stay consistent from design token to shipped code.
Establish governance and contribution models so teams adopt and extend the system rather than fork it.
Define how design uses AI day-to-day and lead experiments that make the function faster and more consistent.
Set the standard for cross-functional AI collaboration — how PMs and engineers brief, generate, review and hand off AI-assisted designs and prototypes.
Represent design-systems and AI strategy to R&D and senior stakeholders, with clear rationale and measurable impact.
Drive effectiveness, efficiency and best practice across how the team works, and demonstrate the value of design with metrics and proof-points.
Mentor designers on systems thinking and AI-augmented craft, raising the bar across the team.
What you will bring
Must-haves
8+ years in product design, with clear expertise in design systems at scale.
Demonstrated experience building, consolidating or governing a design system used across multiple teams or products.
Fluency in design tokens, component architecture, variants and states — and how these map to front-end code.
Strong cross-functional leadership: you set direction and bring Product and Engineering with you.
Experience leading research and translating it into system and product decisions.
A track record that shows systems-level impact, not only screen-level craft.

You have front-end development experience — or a strong working understanding of front-end principles — enough to have credible, informed conversations with Engineering on collaboration for design systems and components.
You are hands-on with the design-to-code bridge: Figma Dev Mode, Code Connect, MCP servers and Storybook.
You have advanced, hands-on knowledge of AI tools and are actively experimenting — Claude (including Claude Code and Cowork), ChatGPT, Cursor.
You understand Skills and .md-based setups for configuring and scaling AI workflows.
You treat AI as a directed collaborator: you know where it helps, where it fails, and how to catch its mistakes.
Reporting & structure
Reports to the Senior Director of Design
Senior individual-contributor leadership role; may grow to include direct reports.
High autonomy and visibility across ABC’s R&D organisation.

Compensation for this role will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and market considerations. The anticipated compensation range for this position is -
€75000- €85000 Euros- annually. In addition to base compensation, eligible employees may be offered other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, commissions, equity, or other incentive programs, where applicable.
