Designs, integrates, tests, troubleshoots, and documents industrial IoT solutions connecting machines, PLCs, sensors, and customer systems to Factbird. Responsibilities include feasibility assessments, custom hardware and software solutions, OT/IT integration, live production root-cause analysis, network troubleshooting, commissioning, end-to-end testing, technical customer engagement, and knowledge sharing. The role also standardizes repeatable solutions and provides product input.
📍This role is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and requires relocation. We'll support your move for the right hire. The one requirement: eligibility for a Danish work permit
At Factbird, we help manufacturers see what’s really happening on their lines, so they can make better, faster decisions. Our plug-and-play hardware and cloud platform turn live production data into clear insights, and we’re scaling fast across sites, teams, and countries.
We’re looking for a hands-on Senior IoT Solutions Engineer to join Engineering Services, the team that takes on the technical problems that fall outside what our product and Support handle today. You’ll look at a PLC, a sensor, or a 20-year-old CNC and work out how to get its data into Factbird. Sales and Support turn to you when the answer is “it depends,” and you turn that into a clear yes, no, or “here’s how.” Then you write it down so the next person doesn’t need to ask.
About the roleEngineering Services solves the hardest technical problems, documents them, and shares the knowledge, so Factbird gets smarter and the same problem doesn’t come back. You’ll answer feasibility questions before deals close, design and build custom solutions, and fix the cross-domain problems no other team can place.
The team mission we are on: Engineering Services is a small team of experts finding solutions to a wide variety of challenges. In pre-sales we are supporting our AE's and Solution Consultants with feasibility testing the most complex customer setups or requirements. Often directly with the customers and their technical teams. In post-sales we collaborate with Cloud, FW and HW teams, and build and support a range of custom solutions. Our core mission is to increase documentation, standardization and empowering our colleagues in both pre- and post-sales roles to server the customers in the most technical cases.
What You'll Do
- Answer feasibility questions from Sales: can we connect this machine, PLC, or sensor, and how
- Design and build custom solutions: logic boxes, signal converters, IO-Link modules, EDGE flows, and Factbird® powered by OMRON NX1 programs that fill gaps the cloud platform can’t handle yet.
- Design the integration: map the customer’s OT/IT environment and plan the data sources, tag structures, transformations, and security.
- Root cause troubleshooting in live production. Smaller share of time, highest stakes
- Document everything you build and fix: Solution Records, runbooks, and wiring guides for customers and internal teams, clear enough that someone else can pick it up. Version and back up every configuration.
- Bench-test hardware before it ships, test the full data flow end to end (including failure recovery and restarts), and hand hardware to Logistics with a clear packing list.
- Integrate customer systems through Kepware, Ignition, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and Node-RED.
- Share what you know: help Support, Solution Consultants, and Hardware handle more on their own.
- Streamline as you go: spot repeat work and clunky processes, and fix them or flag them. Build templates and scripts that make the next delivery faster.
- Turn repeat workarounds into product input with a business case, so the workaround can disappear.
- Join customer and prospect calls as the technical voice alongside Solution Consultants and Account Managers.
About you
You’re an experienced industrial automation engineer, as happy with a screwdriver as with a terminal. You know how factories work, and you’re comfortable saying “not directly, but here’s the route.”
You document like the next person depends on it, because they do. You can’t leave a clunky process alone: you always have an eye on how to make things simpler and more repeatable.
You’re flexible and self-directed: you take a high level of accountability and ownership. You can prioritize and deliver without daily supervision, and you troubleshoot systematically when things get ambiguous. The work changes week to week, and the team’s shape will keep evolving as Factbird grows. You’re happy to do what’s needed today while helping move things in a more scalable direction.
You love being the expert, but you equally love teaching others and making the teams around you smarter. And most of all, you care about making the answer simple for whoever asked.

Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or similar, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 5 years in industrial automation or controls engineering, including hands-on work on the shop floor (7+ years preferred).

- Solid understanding of industrial protocols, e.g. OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, MQTT.
- Working knowledge of sensors and signals, like digital, analog (4–20 mA, 0–10 V), IO-Link, PNP/NPN, and energy metering.
- Root cause analysis across hardware, networks, and software in live production environments.
- Field experience commissioning or troubleshooting equipment in live plants.
- Comfortable troubleshooting site networks, e.g. IP setup, routers, SIMs, and firewalls.
- A clear communicator in English who can explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers.
- A strong documentation habit: when you build it, you write it down.
