In the role of German Proofreader, you will report to the Sr. Manager of Copywriting, Home Entertainment and work up to 20 hours per week.
This is a remote position, and we are considering applicants who are based in Germany.
The Proofreader will join a global creative team to proofread German text including summaries and booklets, and fine print used on home video packaging. You will have temporary guidance from an Editorial team in an adjacent department, and eventually become the sole Proofreader for German home video packaging. An English-speaking manager based in the U.S. will oversee the Proofreader's work to ensure it meets quality standards across global products and is delivered on time.
Core Areas of Responsibility- Proofread German show synopses and taglines, adding markup through Google Documents (Suggested Edits tool)
- Proofread German home video packaging to check the accuracy of text and fine print using a digital viewer (Like Proof HQ, Ziflow, Page Proof etc.)
- Edit and proof booklet text (up to 200 pages) including interviews and character biographies translated from Japanese to German (Japanese translations are provided)
- Check databases and internal style guides to confirm accuracy and collaborate with other teams to gather necessary information
- Maintain the internal style guide and any lists or databases to establish consistency across future prints
- Receive assignments, communicate with the writers, and be aware of occasional rush requests
We get excited about candidates, like you, because...
- You're a German language Proofreader with at least 4 or more years of experience
- You have an exceptional grasp of German grammar with awareness of common vernacular in the anime industry
- Your eye for detail catches errors in typography such as issues with kerning/line spacing, and also technical information including numbers
- Your command of the English language is B2 level or higher. You can understand direction from, and communicate with, English-speaking coworkers
- Your work days can operate on a later start and end time to accommodate weekly meetings with international teams
- You manage your workload well and set deadlines for yourself based on larger team deadlines
- Your workflow can adapt to use project management and chat software (we use Wrike, Airtable, and Slack)
- You follow style guides and adapt to requirements that vary across many clients (Licensors)
- German Copywriting skills are a plus but not required
- Familiarity with the Japanese language is a plus but not required
We are looking for a Proofreader to join our well-established team, focusing on proofreading German packaging and booklets for our home video business. Your work will be collaborative, involving close coordination with creative team members such as Designers, Copywriters, Project Managers, and other key stakeholders. Your success will be measured by your ability to proofread products with perfect accuracy, meet project deadlines, and contribute to the timely release of products, thereby driving revenue growth. Within the first 90 days, you will integrate seamlessly into the team, understand project workflows, and begin delivering impactful proofreading work that meets our business objectives.
