About Investments

Our Investments team manages approximately $35 billion in assets, with allocations to US fixed income investments, private credit, private equity and hedge funds. Our investment portfolio is one of RenaissanceRe’s “Three Drivers of Profit”, along with underwriting income and third-party capital fees, providing $1.3 billion in retained net investment income in 2025. RenRe has grown significantly over the last few years, both organically and through strategic acquisitions. To support our expanded scale and allocation plans, we are seeking an experienced Director of Investments with a primary focus on private credit, but also to support asset allocation to private equity and other private markets.

The private markets portfolio currently has $2.1 billion in net asset value with $2.5 billion in unfunded commitments as of Q1 2026. We continue to make material commitment to grow our private markets exposure, with a focus on private credit. This expansion reflects the organization’s continued focus on building a diversified, world class private markets program, with disciplined pacing, manager selection, and portfolio construction central to the strategy.

About the Position

Reporting to the Managing Director, Investments, the Director of Investments will actively contribute to defining our private markets strategy, will lead the due diligence on fund investments and will help ongoing oversight of private market investments. The role will evaluate opportunities across direct lending, opportunistic and distressed credit, asset-based finance, specialty finance, structured credit and mezzanine. We allocate through fund investments, funds-of-one, rated note structures, separately managed accounts and secondaries.

This is an exciting, hands-on, analytically rigorous role with a team that has ambitious plans to expand a world-class private markets platform. The team conducts due diligence in-house and retains full responsibility for manager selection, sizing and tactical and strategic portfolio construction decisions. We offer the opportunity to join a highly experienced investments team in a role with direct ownership of sizing, private markets due diligence and investment decision-making. There will be direct exposure to senior leadership, the Investment Committee and a broad set of leading private market managers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support portfolio construction on a tactical and strategic basis across the private markets portfolio, including commitment sizing, pacing, vintage-year diversification, and exposure management.

  • Conduct credit underwriting and manager diligence, assessing investment process, sourcing, strategy, portfolio construction, track record attribution, team quality, operational infrastructure and overall manager capabilities.

  • Prepare and present clear investment recommendations and supporting analysis to the Investment Committee.

  • Monitor alternative investment performance and the broader landscape through ongoing dialogue with managers, surveillance of underlying portfolio company exposures and review of trends.

  • Partner with our Quantitative and Technology teams to enhance portfolio analytics, attribution, risk reporting and transparency.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective third-party managers, external partners and other market participants.

  • Collaborate with Accounting, Tax, and Legal partners on investment structuring, onboarding and ongoing operational matters.

  • Provide analysis on other asset classes and total-portfolio allocation decisions as needed.

Candidate Required Experienced, Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 7-10 years of relevant investment experience, on public and / or private credit (corporate credit, direct lending, opportunistic/distressed, asset-based, structured credit, mezzanine, or related strategies).

  • Demonstrated track record of underwriting and executing credit investments — whether at an LP/allocator, a credit-focused asset manager, a private credit fund, or a direct lending platform.

  • Strong knowledge of fixed income and broader financial markets, including how private credit interacts with the public credit complex.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear investment recommendations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Initiative, intellectual curiosity, and the agility to thrive in a high-growth, collaborative environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field; or equivalent experience. Advanced degree (MBA) or relevant credential (CFA, CAIA).
