ABOUT THE POSITION
The ideal candidate would have a strong familiarity of financial instruments and experience with full-stack development and data engineering using the modern technology stack. The candidate must have excellent programming and data management skills, strong verbal/written communication skills, and be a cultural fit with an emphasis on teamwork, excellence and results.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Backend Engineer to join our dynamic development team. As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic of our software applications and systems. Your expertise in programming languages, databases, and web technologies will be crucial in delivering high-quality and scalable backend solutions.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the server-side components of our software applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend engineers, data engineers, product managers, and designers, to ensure seamless integration of the frontend and backend components.
- Monitor and optimize the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards.
- Design, implement, and optimize database structures and queries for efficient data storage and retrieval.
- Perform thorough testing and debugging to identify and resolve issues or bottlenecks.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies and propose improvements to enhance the backend architecture and development processes.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and mentor junior developers.
- Collaborate with DevOps engineers to deploy and maintain backend applications in production environments.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the team members as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in computer science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms.
- Proven work experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role, with a focus on developing scalable web applications.
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages (python preferred).
- Experience with web frameworks and technologies, such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
- Sound knowledge of databases and experience working with relational databases like SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Financial Industry experience or curiosity/savvy to learn and engage in Private Equity/Credit type of business domain.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Redis is a plus.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles and experience in building and consuming APIs.
- Proficiency in version control systems, such as Git, and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Additional Beneficial Skills/Knowledge
- Knowledge of Fund Accounting or Advent Geneva a plus
- Understanding of Data Engineering tools and platforms (data pipelines, data lake)
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience in one or more of bank loans/leveraged loans, fixed-income products, CLOs, derivatives, ABS and CMBS products.
