We are seeking an Associate Director Environment (Dublin) to join our growing Environment team with AtkinsRéalis to lead environmental inputs on major transportation infrastructure projects across Ireland. This role requires proven experience in delivering environmental requirements for rail, road, and greenway schemes, with strong knowledge of Irish planning legislation and transport-related environmental assessment frameworks.
Your roleAs an Associate Director Environment you will:
- Provide environmental expertise as part of a wider team primarily on rail projects but also roads, greenways etc.
- Ensure compliance with national/EU legislation and guidance, including the EIA Directive.
- Coordinate and review complex planning applications, EIARs, Natura Impact Statements, and masterplans.
- Lead environmental aspects of Strategic Infrastructure/Part 10 planning applications for rail and major transport schemes.
- Assume a leadership role on large and complex multi-disciplinary projects
- Contribute to tender proposals, lead bids and win new commissions to expand the business pipeline including contributing to pricing strategy.
- Monitor environmental risks through planning phases and implement mitigation.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions that de‑risk consenting, improve program certainty or elevate outcomes.
- Work closely and collaboratively with our transportation team including project managers, engineers, the wider environmental team (including GIS, ecology, land liaison team) and your peers. You will also support the wider Irish Business Unit.
- Manage project teams including working with the local and wider AtkinsRéalis teams across Ireland and the UK. You will also establish and maintain excellent working relationships with our environmental sub-consultants.
- Degree qualified in a relevant science or environmental engineering subject (e.g. environmental science, sustainability, air and climate, noise).
- Masters qualified in a relevant specialism preferred, but not essential.
- Chartered with Engineers Ireland, CIEEM or other equivalent professional institution.
- You must bring experience in a similar consultancy environment and have demonstratable experience in the delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure projects in Ireland particularly transportation and/or linear infrastructure.
- Specialised expertise and knowledge of transport planning and environmental assessment, including EIARs and Part 8 applications.
- Excellent and demonstratable knowledge and experience of coordinating and delivering the environmental requirements in line with Transport Infrastructure Irelands (TII) Project Management Guidelines (PMGs), National Transport Authority Project Approval Guidelines (PAGs) and the Department of Transports Transport Appraisal Framework (TAF).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Knowledge of Irish planning legislation and EU directives; experience engaging with An Coimisiún Pleanála and public consultations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary design team, delivery partners team members and colleagues.
- Have a proactive leadership style with a genuine interest in mentoring and supporting others.
- Experience in whole‑life carbon management, carbon accounting and sustainability assessments for transport and environmental deliverables would be advantageous.
- A willingness to develop and build client relationships.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Full driving license.
