Where we Work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

Software Development Leadership: Leading and directing software engineering teams to conceive, specify, design, program, document, test, and maintain software applications and components while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technical excellence.
Stakeholder Management: Identifying stakeholders, determining their influence, developing a communication management plan, and influencing stakeholders through engagement to drive successful outcomes across engineering initiatives.
Championing Change: Preparing, supporting, and guiding individuals, teams, and organizations through technological and operational transitions to achieve desired outcomes and ensure the successful implementation of transformative initiatives.
Strategic Roadmap Planning: Creating detailed plans and strategies to guide the development and implementation of engineering projects and initiatives, including identifying key milestones, resources, and timelines that align with long-term organizational objectives.
About this role
As VP, Engineering for Talent and Performance, you will lead the engineering strategy and execution for Udemy's core marketplace platforms that connect millions of learners with instructors worldwide. This role presents the opportunity to drive technical innovation at scale while building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams that deliver products used by millions of users globally. You will work closely with other functional leaders in the company, including those in finance, product management, sales, and services.
What you'll be doing
Translate requirements to solution vision and technical directions. Communicate and align plans to broader leadership as well as dependency teams.
Guide your teams in best practices around software development, documentation, coding standards, performance, fault tolerance and scalability
Identify critical touch points and build key experiences to address learners' needs, aka learning journey, to achieve their learning goals.
Own the technical aspect of end-to-end product flows for Learners and product flows for Instructors authoring and maintaining these learning activities and content
Build an in-depth understanding of our B2B customers, internal users, integrations, systems, API’s, marketing tools, platforms, and channels
Communicate and align plans as well as dependencies to broader Engineering teams
Partner with product, design, and business stakeholders to translate strategic vision into scalable technical solutions that enhance user experience and drive business growth
Drive technical architecture decisions and engineering standards that support marketplace scalability, reliability, and performance across global markets
Represent engineering perspectives in executive discussions and contribute to company-wide strategic planning and technology roadmap development
What you'll have
12+ years of progressive software engineering experience with at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles managing large, distributed teams
Proven track record of leading engineering organizations at scale, with experience managing 50+ engineers across multiple teams and technical domains
Deep expertise in modern software development technologies, cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and distributed systems at consumer internet scale
Demonstrated experience building and scaling marketplace or two-sided platform products with millions of active users
Strong background in data-driven decision making, with experience using metrics and analytics to guide technical strategy and product development
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels
Experience driving organizational transformation and change management within fast-growing technology companies
Proven ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities, ensuring delivery of high-quality products within competitive timelines
