Job Overview
Ivans, a division of Applied Systems, is currently seeking a Staff Data Engineer (BigQuery, BI) to work with the Ivans Architecture and Engineering teams to design and implement scalable data solutions for our growing portfolio of data-driven initiatives. Reporting directly to Architecture leadership, you will contribute to strategy, aligning technical data solutions with business goals and long-term initiatives.
What You'll Do:
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines using cloud-native technologies like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and DataFlow.
- Collaborate with Architecture leadership to align data solutions with strategic business goals and long-term initiatives.
- Optimize data infrastructure for performance and reliability, focusing on storage, partitioning, and indexing strategies.
- Support BI product development, with a focus on Looker, while being familiar with other tools like Tableau and PowerBI.
- Work with stakeholders to validate business and technical requirements, ensuring alignment and successful project outcomes.
- Implement data cataloging and governance tools like Dataplex to manage metadata and ensure data integrity.
- Automate and manage data workflows to ensure efficient, reliable data operations.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
We're looking for someone who:
- Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office
Your experience should include some or all of the following:
- 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a focus on cloud-based data solutions.
- E xperience with BigQuery and cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
- S trong proficiency in SQL and programming languages like Python for data management and manipulation.
- E xpertise in data modeling, warehousing concepts, and big data architectures.
- L eadership and mentoring experience
- P ractical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform.
- F amiliarity with CI/CD processes and Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).
- E xperience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and using orchestration tools like DataFlow.
- F amiliarity with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or PowerBI (Looker experience is a plus).
- E xperience with data governance practices and tools like Dataplex for metadata management.
- S elf-motivated with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- A bility to work independently while effectively collaborating with stakeholders.
Additionally, you may have:
- Experience in the insurance sector.
- Familiarity with data governance and cataloging best practices.
- Experience working with extremely large and mature datasets, understanding the challenges of optimizing data pipelines, storage, and retrieval in high-scale environments.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
