The Impact of a Sr. Manager, Data & AI Platform at Coupa:
Coupa's data platform processes trillions of dollars of spend data across hundreds of enterprise tables, powering production ML models and AI-driven features used by thousands of customers. The Sr. Manager, Data & AI Platform will lead and grow the India-based engineering team that builds the data infrastructure underpinning our AI capabilities. You will manage delivery, coordinate with the US team, and build a high-performing team focused on data pipelines, data quality, and AI data infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, ML engineers, and knowledge engineers in India.
- Coordinate delivery with US-based technical leadership across time zones.
- Drive hiring and onboarding as the India team scales.
- Own sprint planning, delivery cadence, and progress reporting.
- Ensure technical quality through code reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with the Principal Architect and ML Engineering Lead on technical direction.
- Remove blockers, manage cross-team dependencies, and ensure smooth collaboration.
- Contribute to data architecture and pipeline design decisions.
What You Will Bring to Coupa
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years in engineering management.
- Strong background in data engineering: Spark/PySpark, ETL pipelines, data quality frameworks.
- Experience managing distributed teams across time zones (US-India coordination preferred).
- Track record building and scaling engineering teams in a B2B SaaS environment.
- Understanding of ML/AI systems and data preparation for model training is a strong plus.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
- Strong communication skills across geographies.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
