The Community Outreach Team in Red Hat's Open Source Program Office is seeking a Software Engineer to assist the team with a variety of foundational activities. As open source projects grow in prominence within the business world, measuring the health and sustainability of the project’s communities becomes critical. This software engineer position will focus on data science within OSPO to help Red Hat make informed data-driven decisions around open source communities.
What You Will Do

Coordinate with data science teams and end users to create tools for the exploration of open source community data

Manage and maintain the public instance of a Python Dash application (8Knot) hosted on OpenShift
-
Assist with the development of machine learning models for open source community data
-
Contributed to the management of a production PostgreSQL database
-
Work with the Plotly and Dash community to develop upstream features required for 8Knot
-
Collaborate with community leaders to apply data analysis results to actionable tasks
What You Will Bring
-
Experience developing React-like applications (React, Next.js, T3)
-
Familiarity with SQL and KV databases
-
Familiarity with data science concepts
-
Good English language skills
-
Strong organizational and logistical skills
-
Comfortable with learning new skills independently
-
Proficiency in React, Python, Podman (Docker), and Git
-
Experience with distributed computing Python projects
Experience in the following is a plus

Strong full-stack development background, including data-oriented applications

Machine learning fundamentals
-
PostgreSQL database management
-
Development using lower-abstraction cloud resources like Kubernetes
-
Securing online accounts, OAuth 2.0 flow and cross-site accounts
-
History contributing to an open source project
-
Dash and Plotly
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or other related degrees
