Join a team of passionate thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all.

About the team and the role:

The Mobile Services & Telemetry (MST) team builds and operates the client-side observability and control platform for eBay’s native iOS and Android apps. The team enables error and traffic telemetry, custom event logging, dashboards, anomaly detection, and runtime controls that help engineers diagnose issues quickly and improve reliability at scale.

This is a platform and tooling engineering role focused on backend services, streaming pipelines, and developer-facing release automation—not an SRE position. The role supports real-time incident response for MST-owned services and pipelines, while broader incidents are managed by partner SRE teams. You will participate in a rotating on-call schedule (one week of 24/7 coverage, with supplemental pay in line with regional policy) and may contribute to asynchronous investigations during business hours.

Based in Dublin, Ireland (in-office or hybrid; full remote not available), this role reports within the MST organization and works closely with mobile app teams, platform partners, and SRE teams to improve app reliability and developer velocity through scalable telemetry and release tooling.

What you will accomplish:
  • Build and operate Kotlin/Java (Spring Boot) services that safely ingest, process, and enrich mobile telemetry at scale.

  • Design and optimize end-to-end streaming data pipelines to power performant dashboards, actionable insights, and resilient alerting.

  • Deliver telemetry solutions using OpenTelemetry signals (logs, metrics, traces) and search/analytics platforms to reduce time-to-diagnosis in production.

  • Contribute to release automation capabilities, including React/TypeScript front-end features and integrations with authentication, documentation, and ticketing systems to streamline weekly app releases.

  • Integrate with feature toggle and remote configuration services to enable runtime controls, safe rollouts, and experiment gating for global mobile applications.

  • Partner with mobile engineers, core product teams, and platform organizations to build developer-friendly observability tools and continuously improve reliability practices.

What you will bring:
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and Java for backend service development.

  • Experience with Spring Boot (or similar JVM frameworks) and REST/OpenAPI-based service integrations.

  • Experience building modular internal user interfaces using React/TypeScript, including microfrontend or plugin architectures.

  • Experience with CI/CD for web plugins and end-to-end testing at scale; familiarity with enterprise SSO/identity management integration patterns.

  • Hands-on experience with Kafka ecosystems (producers/consumers, delivery guarantees, schema management) and stream processing frameworks (e.g., Flink or Spark Streaming).

  • Practical experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch (index design, query optimization, dashboards, alerts/monitors) and familiarity with OpenTelemetry concepts.

  • Experience deploying services on Kubernetes (e.g., Helm, GitOps) and operating distributed systems in production environments.
