Senior Specialist, Global SME Market Expansion
The Global SME Market Expansion team is a newly established unit within Mastercard's Global SME organization, focused on unlocking incremental SME payment flows in underpenetrated geographies.
The Senior Specialist will play a key execution role in advancing market expansion initiatives-supporting strategy development, building business cases, and driving day-to-day delivery across priority expansion markets. This role is ideal for a strong operator who can combine analytics, structured thinking, and high-quality deliverables (presentations, models, research) while progressively taking ownership of defined workstreams.
Role• Support the development and execution of Market Expansion strategies in the SME Segment across targeted markets• Own specific workstreams within broader market expansion initiatives• Develop high-quality analytical outputs, business cases, and executive-ready materials• Drive day-to-day execution of initiatives, ensuring strong tracking and follow-through• Partner closely with cross-functional teams to execute strategy plans
Key Responsibilities
1. Analytics & Business Case Development• Build and maintain financial models linking initiatives to Gross Dollar Volumes, Revenue• Conduct market sizing, segmentation, and opportunity analysis• Translate data into clear insights and actionable recommendations• Track initiative progress, monitor KPIs, and ensure timely delivery of milestones
2. Storytelling & Content Development• Develop executive-ready presentations and materials to support decision-making• Synthesize complex analyses into clear, structured narratives• Support stakeholder updates, business reviews, and strategic discussions
3. Market & Customer Research• Conduct research on SME, payment trends, competitors, and fintech landscape • Identify key pain points and barriers to entry across segments and expansion markets• Support identification of high-potential use cases and verticals
4. Workstream Ownership• Own specific workstreams within projects-driving outputs, coordinating inputs, and ensuring quality• Proactively identify risks and opportunities within assigned scope
5. Cross-functional Collaboration• Work closely with internal stakeholders (Finance, Marketing, Regional, Market teams) to gather input and align execution• Support coordination across multiple teams to ensure smooth program delivery
All About You• Experience in strategy consulting, analytics, business operations, or similar roles• Experience supporting strategy and commercial initiatives preferred• Exposure to financial services, payments, fintech, or SME segments is a plus• Strong problem solver: able to structure ambiguous problems and break them into actionable steps• Highly execution-oriented: delivers high-quality work with speed and attention to detail• Analytical mindset with strong Excel/modeling skills• Strong PowerPoint and storytelling capability (consulting-style preferred)• Comfortable working with data, building analyses, and synthesizing insights• Proactive and reliable: takes ownership of tasks and follows through end-to-end• Effective communicator, able to work in cross-functional and global environments• AI Enthusiast
