Red Hat
Senior Software Engineer - Network HW Enablement & Cloud Infrastructure
Red Hat Global Engineering is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who possesses a problem-solving curiosity and an architect’s discipline. If you are the type of engineer who can dive into a new, complex codebase, quickly intuit how the system works, and identify exactly what needs to change without getting bogged down in the details, this is your home.
You'll be part of the engine of the team primarily responsible for integrating next-generation networking hardware (SmartNICs/DPUs) directly into the core of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
You are happiest when you are writing code, turning requirements into reality with methodical precision, and you don’t shy away from complex technical challenges. You have the discipline to cut through the noise, identify the critical path, and apply your coding skills exactly where they will have the most impact. If you love open source, thrive in the flow state and take pride in shipping robust solutions that our customers care about, you will flourish in Red Hat’s open meritocracy, a culture that values execution and offers continuous opportunities for your development and growth. If you want to learn more about what the team does you can have a look on the following link.
What You Will DoHigh-Volume Execution: You will be one of the core builders on the team, producing the C, Python, and Go code that integrates cutting-edge SmartNIC and DPU technologies into RHEL and OCP.
Automate Intelligently: You will not automate just for the sake of it. You will identify the manual processes that drain time and reliability, and build the automation required to eliminate them so the team can move faster.
Solve Hard Technical Problems: You will debug complex interactions between hardware drivers, the Linux OS, and the container layer. You dig deep to find the root cause and fix it.
Ship Quality: You will take ownership of your code modules, ensuring they meet enterprise standards for performance and stability.
Linux Systems Proficiency: You don't need to be a Kernel maintainer, but you must have a solid understanding of the Linux kernel. You understand enough about how drivers and networking work to build on top of them effectively, without getting lost in the low-level details.
Versatile Coding Mastery: Strong, proven proficiency in at least one low level language like C, and at least two high level languages like Python or Go (for tooling and orchestration). You can switch languages based on the problem and focus on producing functional, high-quality code.
Production-Ready Mindset: A history of shipping code that works. You understand testing, CI/CD, and writing maintainable enterprise grade software that survives in the real world.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
The Following is Considered a Plus:
Container Orchestration: Hands-on understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift (knowing the environment your code runs in).
CI/CD Pipelines: Experience creating your own test pipelines using tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI to validate your work.
Automation at Scale: Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Chef, or Puppet).
Open Source DNA: A history of navigating, using, or contributing to open source projects.
Cloud Proficiency: Experience with major public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
