The Competitive Data Platform is a foundational system that enables insights into external product catalogs, pricing, and inventory trends — supporting better-informed decisions across key marketplace functions.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll work across the full platform stack — improving platform resilience, scale, and processing efficiency, but also uncovering meaningful relationships across data sets to drive trustworthy, data-driven decisions at scale.
You’ll join a team of platform engineers focused on building robust, scalable systems that unlock trusted insights to inform smarter decisions across eBay. You’ll collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering partners across the company. The role reports to the Senior Development Manager and offers scope for technical leadership and cross-functional influence.
What You Will Accomplish

Deliver distributed systems that process diverse external signals at scale, fueling decision-making across eBay.

Design and evolve self-service frameworks that allow teams to manage their own data strategies with speed and accuracy.

Collaborate across product, analytics, and engineering to understand requirements and deliver effective platform capabilities.

Improve system architecture and operational performance through technical innovation and thoughtful design.

Foster a collaborative engineering culture grounded in quality, learning, and shared ownership.

Contribute to the platform’s long-term evolution and technical roadmap.
What You Will Bring

Proficiency in Java, with experience building scalable backend systems using Spring or equivalent frameworks.

Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and experience deploying services using Kubernetes and Docker.

Familiarity with full web stack development, including HTML, JavaScript, and HTTP protocols.

Experience with high-volume data processing technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Flink, or Hadoop, in real-time or batch pipelines.

Clear, inclusive communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

A platform mindset: focused on performance, reliability, and building reusable, sustainable systems.

Experience working in an e-commerce environment or with competitive product data.
