About the Position

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated Senior Quantitative Engineer with a proven delivery record ideally in the Financial domain delivering solutions on the AWS platform. The successful candidate will join a high performing team of engineers delivering world class solutions as aligned with strategic directives. The Quantitative Engineering team manages modelling solutions at the heart of RenaissanceRe’s risk and underwriting strategy and supports a global userbase. The nature of our business demands high levels of agility, which in turn requires our team to be technically superior. The Senior Quantitative Engineer role is based in the Dublin, Ireland office and will be expected to travel occasionally to the UK and potentially to the United States and Bermuda.

Key Relationships

  • Key Stakeholders:  IT Portfolio and UW, CRAM Portfolio Manager, CRAM IT Lead, Portfolio Solutions

  • Key Partners: Eng Modelling Lead and technical resourcing with Portfolio Solutions

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our corporate risk team, product management, and other engineering teams to deliver high quality modelling solutions

  • Design and develop modelling solutions, automated tests, documentation, and related processes to meet and exceed the requirements of partners

  • Lead the technical design efforts for modelling solution. Engage in architecture discussions at a portfolio level and align solution architecture with wider enterprise architecture visions

  • Propose, explore and integrate tools and supporting technologies in the context of the wider system architecture to advance the design of the solutions developed and supported by the team

  • Estimate development effort for the wider technical solution being developed by the team

  • Meet or exceed the quality, reliability, resilience, scalability and stability goals of their assigned

  • Act as a steward for the quality of new development in the team and ensure the stability, integrity, and usability of existing solutions on platforms and technologies including AWS,

  • Python and NoSQL database solutions

  • Effectively communicate with senior management

  • Embrace the RenaissanceRe culture and consistently demonstrate it in daily activities

Key Experience

  • Experience in delivery high performing quantitative engineering solutions using python, AWS and other modern technologies.

  • Excellent Python experience required

  • Proven commercial experience delivering solutions on the AWS platform, ideally using cloud native and serverless architecture paradigms

  • Experience leading innovation activities and proof of concept exercises

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the technologies used by the team is required

  • An ability to lead technical discussions is required

  • An ability to quickly adopt new technologies and systems

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills is preferred

  • Flexibility to work independently or as part of a team is required

  • Experience working in a financial domain

  • Prior experience working ideally in the reinsurance industry, alternatively the insurance or financial industry

  • Prior experience with agile development

  • Experience evaluating 3rd party solutions for use within the enterprise

Candidate Qualifications:

  • A degree level education in a quantitative field (mathematics, computer science, natural science etc.), or equivalent industry experience.

  • Further education / training in quantitative engineering desired
