We are seeking a proficient Senior Performance Test Lead to take ownership of performance, scalability and reliability testing across critical enterprise systems. This role will lead performance engineering efforts, define test strategies and drive continuous improvement of non-functional testing practices across multiple agile delivery teams.
As a Senior Performance Test Lead, you’ll design and execute complex load, stress, endurance and scalability tests, ensuring our customer's platforms perform optimally under real-world conditions. Your role involves working alongside architects, developers, and DevOps teams. You will identify and solve performance problems, boost system efficiency, and establish performance benchmarks for big applications.
This role will operate on a hybrid model, with candidates expected to be able and willing to work from our customer's Dublin office at least once a week.
Required Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in performance testing or performance engineering, including at least 2 years in a lead capacity
- Robust hands-on experience with one or more performance testing tools: JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, BlazeMeter, or Neoload
- Solid awareness of Java- or .NET-based architectures, microservices, REST APIs, and database performance (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Experience in cloud-based performance testing (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Proficiency with monitoring and profiling tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Prometheus
- Solid analytical skills to diagnose bottlenecks at network, application, and database levels
- Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines and working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Impressive communication and management skills, with a focus on mentoring and influencing technical teams
Key responsibilities & duties include:
Performance Test Strategy & Leadership
- Define and implement the overall performance testing strategy, standards, and frameworks for enterprise systems
- Lead the design and execution of load, stress, endurance, and scalability tests across multiple applications and environments
- Collaborate with development and architecture teams to ensure performance requirements are captured early in the lifecycle
- Translate complex business and technical requirements into performance test plans and scenarios
- Provide technical management to performance test engineers and guide the adoption of best practices in performance engineering.
Test Design, Execution & Analysis
- Develop and maintain performance test scripts using industry-standard tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, BlazeMeter)
- Conduct end-to-end performance testing of APIs, microservices, web, and database layers
- Monitor system behaviour under load, identify bottlenecks, and provide actionable recommendations
- Analyze and interpret results using APM tools (e.g., Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, Prometheus) and present findings to stakeholders
- Work with developers and database administrators to fine-tune applications, APIs, and queries for optimal performance
DevOps, Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline)
- Automate performance regression suites and establish continuous performance monitoring
- Collaborate with DevOps to ensure test environments mirror production scale and configuration
- Promote a performance-first mindset across engineering and product teams
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Produce detailed performance reports and dashboards, highlighting system KPIs, SLA compliance and improvement areas
- Communicate complex performance results in clear, actionable terms for technical and business stakeholders
- Provide insights to support capacity planning and scalability roadmaps.
Desirable Experience:
- Knowledge of scripting/programming languages such as Python, Java, or Groovy
- Experience with APM tools and capacity planning
- Exposure to performance engineering in financial services, telecoms, or large-scale digital platforms
- Knows how to handle non-functional needs like reliability, scalability, and fortitude
