Our Opportunity
As the Senior Director, Engineering of the Developer Experience group, you will lead a critical area within Snyk's Engineering team, directly shaping the experience of developers interacting with our platform and underpinning the core capabilities our customers rely on. This role will have a profound impact on Snyk's ability to deliver cutting-edge security solutions by enhancing developer workflows, ensuring the scalability and reliability of our product infrastructure, and driving innovation in key strategic areas like generative AI.
As the Senior Director, Engineering, you will be a visionary leader responsible for the core infrastructure that powers Snyk and the developer experience that defines our platform. You will lead teams focused on critical components that are both external developer-facing and foundational for other Snyk engineering teams. This role demands a technical leader with a strong ability to build long-term vision, execute multi-year investments, and manage complex stakeholder relationships both internally and externally.
This is a high-impact, strategic role for a leader who is excited by complex technical challenges. You will be instrumental in evolving our core technology to power the next generation of developer security tools, including our AI-powered remediation capabilities
You’ll Spend Your Time:
- Owning and overseeing the CLI & IDE environment, which are external developer-facing tools and core components for other Snyk teams that ensure a seamless and powerful developer experience.
- Owning the workspace & file upload capabilities, which are critical customer-facing core functionalities of the Snyk platform.
- Leading and guiding the IDE team's engagement in MCP experimentation and Gen AI initiatives, driving innovation and exploring new frontiers in developer productivity and security.
- Providing exceptional technical leadership and guidance to your teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Defining and executing long-term projects and multi-year investments, demonstrating strong leadership to build vision and execute strategic initiatives that scale our platform.
- Scaling our platform and infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly growing user base and evolving product capabilities.
- Collaborating closely with Systems teams to understand and optimize operational support for your owned domains.
- Managing internal and external customer relationships, acting as a platform owner who champions the needs of both our engineering teams and our end-users.
What You’ll Need:
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience managing a high-performing engineering team.
- A proven track record of leading teams that build, operate, and scale complex, reliable, and high-performance systems.
- Demonstrated exceptional technical strength with a proven track record of solving complex engineering challenges at scale.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing engineering teams focused on developer experience, platform, or infrastructure.
- Proven ability to build and execute a long-term technical vision and manage multi-year strategic investments.
- Deep understanding and experience with scaled platform/infrastructure environments.
- Experience in a role requiring internal customer management, ideally in a platform-type capacity.
- Strong understanding of operational support models within an engineering organization.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
We’d be Lucky if You:
- Have direct experience with CLI and IDE development and ecosystems.
- Possess a background in security or developer tools.
- Have experience with multi-cloud platform (MCP) strategies and Gen AI applications in a product context.
- Are passionate about creating exceptional developer experiences and building highly scalable, resilient systems.
- Have experience working in a globally distributed team environment.
