Cubic is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic Application DevX Engineer, who is committed to their work, and capable of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment to join the DevOps team within the DevOps and Quality Assurance group.


This team supports the Developer Experience in the Cubic engineering teams by providing DevOps services and governance, and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, frameworks and Engineering portals. The goal being to support our developers' productivity and experience with self-service capabilities. The successful candidate is expected to bring an open, collaborative and innovative approach to their work.


Key Responsibilities

    • Improve Developer Experience by driving best-in-class Build and Release principles within the technology group working as a Subject Matter expert.
    • Working closely with Engineering Managers and architecture to align and implement best practices.
    • Pro-actively work with cross-functional teams including Software Engineers and Test Automation Engineers to improve the process of building and deploying solutions across all test and production environments, with a focus on applications and infrastructure hosted in Azure.
    • Develop and maintain reusable automation scripts and components with variety of build and deployment automation tools, including but not limited to: git implementations (e.g. Bitbucket/GitLab/GitHub), build runners (e.g. Bamboo/Jenkins/ADO), deployment automation (e.g. Octopus) and IaC (infrastructure as a code) scripts.
    • Integrating with and expanding on Engineering Quality Dashboards and Engineering Portals to provide standardised pipeline visibility, self-service options, and insights across the engineering group.
Requirements

Essential Skills

    • 4 years’ experience in a DevX, Build or Release engineering role.
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, computer/electronic engineering, or related discipline.
    • A self-starter with a proven ability to work independently, managing their own time and workload effectively.
    • Able to understand and communicate thoughts, ideas and design specifications in an unambiguous manner.
    • Is able to effectively communicate with leads and members of cross functional teams.
    • Comfortable presenting in front of small groups of individual contributors and leadership.
    • Experience as a Build/Release Engineer in an Agile development environment.
    • Strong experience of deploying applications and databases in Azure, including container and .NET Core deployments.
    • Strong experience of leveraging Azure services and automation.
    • Strong scripting and automation skills e.g (PowerShell, Bash).
    • Experience on CI/CD and Blue/Green deployments.
    • DevSecOps Experience.
    • Experience managing and integrating with Engineering Portals
    • Experience with any of the following build and deployment automation platforms or similar tooling: ADO, GitLab, Bamboo, Teamcity, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy.
    • Experience using Git, Gitflow (branching model).
    • Experience of deploying .NET Framework applications and components
    • Holistic approach to the application development and strong owner attitude of the functionality provided to the customers.
    • Strong communications and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail

Desirable Skills

    • Experience using Atlassian tools, e.g., Confluence, Jira
    • Experience working in a lean engineering model
    • Strong industry experience with leading companies.
    • Additional background in a Developer role preferable
    • Cloud-based certifications will be of benefit
    • Ability to act as a mentoring resource for colleagues with less experience
