Role PurposeSenior DBA supporting multiple mission critical and Tier-0 payments platforms. Own stability, performance, integrity, and compliance across MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL. This is a senior specialist role with direct impact on customer experience, payment flows, audit readiness, and business continuity.

Summary
Senior / Experienced DBA responsible for the reliability, performance, availability and security of enterprise databases across Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL. Own production operations, performance tuning, HA/DR, backups/restores, change governance, and compliance for mission‑critical services.
Key Responsibilities• Run production SQL Server and PostgreSQL in multi‑environment estates (ops, upgrades, patching, access).
• Performance engineering: execution plans, Query Store/DMVs, pg_stat_statements; indexing & partitioning.
• Capacity & growth planning; workload optimisation for OLTP/batch workloads.
• Design/operate HA/DR (AGs/replication); define/meet RPO/RTO; lead restore and DR drills.
• Own backup/restore strategy, cross‑region replication, and audit evidence packs.
• Security & compliance: encryption in‑flight/at‑rest, certs/keys, access controls, audit trails.
• Change governance: impact assessments, CAB representation, safe deploys/rollbacks (Redgate or similar).
• Observability: monitoring/alerting dashboards, SLOs, runbooks, and post‑incident reviews.
• Schema reviews and data design guidance; lifecycle for large tables (archiving/partitioning).
• Mentor engineers; document standards and best practices.
Experience & Skills• 4+ years’ enterprise DBA experience across SQL Server and / Or PostgreSQL (production).
• Performance tuning (plans, stats, parameter sniffing, waits, EXPLAIN/ANALYZE).
• HA/DR design & operation (AGs/replication, backups/restores, failover).
• Security/compliance mindset; audit‑ready documentation.
• Automation: PowerShell essential; CI/CD for databases (e.g., Redgate) desirable.
• Monitoring with native tools and Grafana/Prometheus or equivalents.
• Clear, timely communication; calm under pressure; stakeholder management.
Nice to Have• MySQL exposure; data warehousing experience.
• Scripting with Python/Bash; infrastructure‑as‑code familiarity.
• Experience in payments/financial services or other high‑throughput transactional systems.
