About us:

Amach is an industry-leading technology driven company with headquarters located in Dublin and remote teams in UK and Europe.

Our blended teams of local and nearshore talent are optimised to deliver high quality and collaborative solutions.

Founded in 2013, Amach was created to solve a specific problem in aviation: too much complexity, too little usable intelligence. We help airlines modernise their operating model using cloud, data and Al-delivered by teams with deep aviation domain expertise.
Our goal is to maximize airlines' operational efficiency by optimizing resource use, reduce costs and increase customer experience and satisfaction.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer where you will design, develop and implement robust data pipelines and data warehouse solutions. This is an AI-native role where modern AI-assisted engineering tools form a core part of your daily workflow, enabling you to accelerate data analysis, modelling, and solution delivery. You will act as a senior technical contributor, leading by example in contemporary engineering practices while mentoring junior engineers and translating complex business requirements into clear, executable data solutions.

Please note: this role operates on a hybrid model, with 2 days per week in the Dublin office.

Key responsibilities & duties include:

  • Act as a senior technical contributor, leading by example in modern, AI-accelerated engineering practices
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and analysts working with the customer's teams, helping them adopt effective AI-assisted workflows while maintaining strong engineering standards
  • Lead technical discussions with the customer's architects, product owners, and business stakeholders, translating ambiguous requirements into clear, executable data solutions
  • Foster a culture of speed, experimentation, and continuous improvement across the customer's data function, grounded in sound engineering judgement and accountability
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance data pipelines, data lake components, and data warehouse models that serve the customer's analytics needs
  • Take end-to-end accountability for data solutions from source ingestion through to analytics-ready datasets, ensuring alignment with the customer's architecture standards, governance requirements, and platform strategy
  • Use AI-assisted tools such as Claude or Copilot-style assistants as a first-class part of your engineering workflow to rapidly explore datasets, propose and iterate data models, generate and optimise SQL and PySpark code, and prototype end-to-end pipelines
  • Apply rigorous validation and critical thinking to all AI-generated outputs, ensuring correctness, performance, security, and maintainability before production use
  • Embed data quality, observability, and validation into pipelines from the outset rather than as a downstream activity, and design monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure reliability of production data assets
  • Clearly document data assets, assumptions, and design decisions to enable transparency, reuse, and auditability across the customer's organisation
  • Stay current with emerging data engineering, analytics, and AI-assisted development practices, and contribute to the evolution of the customer's data engineering standards to reflect modern, AI-enabled ways of working

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience, typically 5 or more years, delivering data engineering solutions in an enterprise environment
  • Strong data engineering fundamentals with the ability to rapidly produce high-quality SQL, Python, and PySpark code using a combination of technical knowledge and AI-assisted development tools
  • Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI tools as part of day-to-day analytics and engineering workflows
  • Deep understanding of data modelling concepts and patterns such as dimensional modelling, and the ability to use AI to accelerate model design and iteration
  • Experience working with modern data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake
  • Experience deploying analytics solutions on cloud platforms including AWS or Azure
  • Experience with orchestration, ETL, and BI ecosystems such as Airflow and Power BI
  • Experience with data quality, governance, or observability tooling
  • Strong bias towards delivery speed and business impact without compromising data quality, security, or governance
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly in ambiguous or poorly defined problem spaces
  • Excellent judgement in reviewing, validating, and hardening AI-generated code and designs for production environments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven track record of improving team working practices and raising overall engineering maturity
  • Comfortable operating within a scaled agile delivery environment

Desirable Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data and Analytics, or a related field
  • Experience acting in a technical lead or informal people-lead capacity
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale data platforms and complex analytical ecosystems
  • Experience driving adoption of new tools, platforms, or ways of working across a team

What’s in it for you:

  • An opportunity to join a fast-growing company
  • Options for career advancement
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Flexible working environment
  • Competitive salaries based on experience
