What Do We Need
As a Senior Cloud Engineer on our ELN Platform Cloud Operations team, you will lead the design and implementation of a robust, scalable, and secure AWS-based infrastructure that empowers engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate with autonomy and efficiency. Your expertise will drive the strategic evolution of our cloud infrastructure, prioritizing platform reliability, developer velocity, and operational excellence.
In this role you’ll get to:
- Architect Scalable Infrastructure: Design and evolve highly available, secure, and scalable AWS-based solutions to support the growth of multiple products and services.
- Drive Automation & Self-Service: Lead the development and adoption of infrastructure-as-code (IAC) practices and self-service tooling to enhance developer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with engineering, security, and DevOps teams to establish best practices, guide cloud architecture decisions, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Enhance Platform Reliability: Implement observability, monitoring, and incident response strategies to maintain high availability and minimize downtime.
- Champion Security: Embed security best practices into infrastructure design, ensuring compliance and safeguarding sensitive data.
- Provide Technical Leadership: Mentor team members, lead cloud infrastructure initiatives, and share expertise in AWS services and software development.
We're looking for people who have 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud platforms and services in production environments. You will be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will also be able to demonstrate strong architectural thinking, deep hands-on cloud expertise (particularly in AWS), and the ability to influence cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
The key skills we are looking for:
- Advanced experience operating production workloads in AWS, leveraging DevOps best practices
- Expert knowledge in automation using Python (required) or related scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash)
- Proven system engineering expertise in Linux and/or Windows environments
- Automating operational workloads and infrastructure on AWS
- Proficiency with at least one configuration management tool (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or similar)
- Advanced programming or scripting skills in Python (required), and working knowledge of at least one of the following: .NET, Ruby, Java, or PowerShell
- In-depth understanding of CI/CD concepts, tools, and pipeline design
- Experience in Agile, DevOps-centric environments with rapid release cycles
- Strong background in designing and building distributed, highly available applications on AWS
- Solid Linux administration skills and working experience with Windows systems
- Strong foundational knowledge of networking concepts, including DNS, load balancing, and firewalls
- Ability to Design or working with serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda, API Gateway)
- Conducting peer code reviews and promoting engineering best practices
