Job Description

This is a great opportunity to join the Opayo Technology Team and be part of the exciting projects and engineering changes we make to ensure the Opayo payment processing gateway continues to be best in class. This high performing team ensures that all changes are implemented successfully across all the Opayo Face-to-Face Payment Gateway.

Test automation is key to this role so we’re looking for somebody to create and maintain test cases using our automated testing frameworks. This role will also provide insight into the lifecycle of how transactions flow through our business and visibility into key business processes and procedures from a testing perspective.

As a tester you will be embedded into a SCRUM team, working with business analysts and product owners to clarify business requirements for the team.  You will be a pivotal member of the team ensuring that deliverables have fulfilled all functional and non-functional requirements

You will be expected to learn the details of payment processing and with collaboration from BAs guide the developers.  You should have an excellent eye for detail and confidence to hold experienced engineers to account when required.

CORE FUNCTIONS OF ROLE:

  • Improving and maintaining (or replacing) existing automation frameworks/tests

  • Being a strong influence on the Test Team’s decision making and direction

  • Designing and implementing automation tests cases

  • Performing exploratory testing, identifying defects and co-ordinating resolution.

  • Identifying and writing acceptance criteria for user stories

  • Executing regression testing on software releases

  • Review and validate findings, providing feedback and results to scrum team, scrum master and management.

  • Issue test completion and sign-off documentation, ensuring no unexpected impacts to merchants or production system.

  • Be an active participant in Agile ceremonies including daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, sprint retrospective, sprint demo, backlog refinements etc.

  • Assist other business area teams, monitoring and responding to inquiries and questions, tracking and logging calls relevant to test environment.

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Strong desire to use technical knowledge and learn new systems and business processes

  • Strong development background.  Tests are written in Python

  • Software Testing & Quality Assurance skills

  • Analytical & troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including creating quality documentation/diagrams

  • Comfortable with standard development tools such as Git, IDEs, Confluence/Jira

  • Experience with Windows Server

  • Database experience (SQL Server preferred)

  • Ability to multi-task and test a number of projects in parallel

  • Effective management of time and priorities to ensure commitments are met

  • Self-motivated with the energy, drive and ambition to succeed

  • Organised and methodical approach with good attention to detail

  • Good organization skills and ability to manage time and tasks with minimum supervision

  • Should be able to work effectively in fast paced, multi-tasking environment, under time pressure, in an agile/scrum environment with a desire to achieve excellence.

  • Ability and interest in mentoring more junior or inexperienced team members

EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field; or equivalent and relevant work experience.

  • 6+ years proven Test automation / development experience

  • 2+ years proven experience working in an agile or scrum environment

  • Self-starter: ability to review technical documents and work on own initiative.

  • Low-level experience using Pytest or similar Test Framework

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Payment processing experience

  • Experience with reasonably large interconnected multi-threaded systems

  • Comfortable with security / cryptography concepts

  • Understanding of networks, TCP sockets / sessions

  • Experience with AWS

  • Experience with other scripting languages like PowerShell

The role offers a hybrid / flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
