Senior Apps Engineer (Android/iOS) - Ratings & Reviews (HYBRID)

Product ratings and reviews provide Zalando’s customers access to authentic, detailed, and diverse feedback on products and empower them to make confident purchase decisions. Zalando is making significant investments into its ratings and review experiences and to achieve this are forming a new dedicated team with a mission to elevate the experience to best in class for our customers, while also achieving significant business impact for the business. 

As part of this new team, Zalando is seeking a talented Senior Apps Engineer to work with us to the frontend capabilities required to enable over 50 million customers to gain insights from over 100 million ratings and reviews. This role will require significant experience in developing across (one or both of) iOS or Android apps, plus experience in React Native and strong experience in working with backend teams and serving later technologies to integrate with scalable backend serving architectures for serving data where experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL would also be distinct advantage.

• Engage with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate complex requirements into clear, actionable technical designs for the team.

• Take ownership, reduce ambiguity, and break down complex projects into manageable tasks for team collaboration.

• Lead the design, development, deployment and maintenance of the team's Apps integrations, demonstrating seasoned expertise across both native and React Native technologies to deliver exceptional user experiences.

• Consistently deliver high-quality, testable software solutions adaptable to evolving product requirements

• Design, construct, and maintain scalable software solutions adaptable to evolving product requirements.

• Share expertise, develop skills collaboratively, and contribute to fostering a culture of excellence through comprehensive reviews and mentorship. 

• Embrace agility by iteratively testing features with stakeholders while maintaining a holistic perspective on project goals.

• Prioritise team processes, automation, communication, and collaboration to bolster the team's velocity and output, driving toward collective success

• You are a smart individual with considerable engineering experience and skills, driven by the desire to tackle tangible customer problems.

• You have a comprehensive understanding of modern Android or iOS development. Additional experience with the React Native ecosystem, including Redux for state management and React Navigation being a distinct advantage.

• You feel at ease with a diverse tech stack, embracing the opportunity to learn new languages, technologies, and systems.

• You exhibit robust stakeholder management skills, fostering effective communication and collaboration with engineering peers, applied scientists, and product owners throughout the organisation.

• You have solid experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile application development, ensuring efficient and reliable releases.

• You are experienced in implementing and using monitoring and observability tools and practices to ensure mobile application health, performance, and stability.

• You are passionate about clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. You take ownership and pride in code quality.

• You have a proven track record in high-performing teams, confidently leading technical discussions, articulating ideas effectively, and independently driving technical decisions while fostering collaboration.

• You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills for clearly and concisely articulating complex technical topics and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• You thrive in collaborative environments, seamlessly integrating with various stakeholders and navigating complex domains, such as ML Engineers, Applied Scientist and other Software Engineering teams.
