We are currently seeking a Recreational Therapist to help patients achieve their highest level of functioning and well-being through creative and therapeutic recreation programs.

Located in the heart of Suffolk, Virginia, our full-service community hospital combines advanced medical care with a warm, supportive atmosphere that fosters both professional and personal growth.
The Recreational Therapist plans and implements medically prescribed recreational therapy programs designed to enhance patients’ cognitive, emotional, and physical health. Using a variety of assessment tools, you will evaluate patient needs and develop individualized plans of care that promote participation, independence, and quality of life.
You will lead both individual and group sessions, incorporating leisure education, adaptive activities, and therapeutic interventions that support the patient’s overall treatment goals. The role also includes ongoing evaluation and documentation of patient progress while working closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal care outcomes.
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, Day Shift (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) | Flexible Hours
Key Responsibilities
Conduct individualized assessments and develop age-appropriate care plans
Implement and adapt recreational therapy programs based on patient diagnosis, level of function, and cognitive ability
Lead therapeutic activities and interventions to improve patients’ emotional, physical, and social well-being
Document progress, participation, and outcomes in accordance with clinical standards
Collaborate with medical, nursing, and therapy teams to support comprehensive patient care
Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients in all therapeutic settings
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field (Required)
Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) credential (Required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
Behavioral Health De-escalation and Physical Intervention Training within 15 days of hire
