Core Responsibilities:

• Hands-on development of next-generation features, tooling and infrastructure for Yahoo! News.

• Help to scope, plan, and implement best-in-class software practices, procedures, and delivery.

• Collaborate with your peers, product managers, and engineering leaders on new features and enhancements.

• Establish best practices and influence long-term technical roadmaps that enable teams to leverage maximum efficiency and compliance.

• Apply deep technical expertise, continuously optimising for performance and data integrity across Yahoo properties.

• Provide mentoring to software engineers and lead by example, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing. 

Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

• 10+ years of software development experience with significant expertise in frontend development of customer-facing products

• Expert in the software development domain and principles, including design patterns, data structures, algorithms, performance optimisation, and software design

• Deep functional knowledge and hands-on experience in frontend programming languages and modern frameworks such as JavaScript, React, and Tailwind

• Deep technical understanding of web application development with strong command of browser-side client technologies including AJAX, HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript and object-oriented JavaScript

• Excellent understanding and experience with web performance and optimisation

• Strong Knowledge of modern CI/CD systems and methodologies

• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks 

• Predisposition towards testing, instrumentation, and documentation.

• Ability to work well with diverse groups of people, geographically dispersed across the world

• Excellent listening and communication skills; communicating team and project goals, including technical details for front-end components.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage.
