About the Role and the Team

At eBay, we handle petabytes of data that are processed, queried, visualized, and analyzed rapidly. Our Data & Metrics team builds and operates a Secure, Highly Available, Fully Automated, Cloud Native, Online, Streaming, and Offline Analytics Platform using Data Mesh architecture to meet these data needs.Are you passionate about creating and enhancing eBay’s data applications and products that serve thousands of internal customers and millions of external users? We welcome self-motivated talent with a keen interest in design and coding.If you are familiar with Java, data structures, object-oriented programming, algorithms, and have experience in big data or open-source contributions, we invite you to join us.

What You Will Accomplish

  • Design comprehensive solutions independently for business challenges or products and mentor development team members in implementations.
  • Collaborate with senior tech members, product managers, architects, and engineering teams to ensure quality and efficiency in product delivery.
  • Define, design, and enforce industry best practices tailored to eBay’s innovative and scalable environment.
  • Communicate and present ideas expertly to management and technical/non-technical audiences.
  • Cultivate creativity, generate energy, and encourage higher-level thinking and ideation.

What You Will Bring

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in big data or machine learning.
  • Ambitious and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Deep insights into software languages such as Java or Python; web-development skills and middlewares like Spring Boot; databases, caches; and Big Data technologies like Hadoop/Spark/Flink/Kafka.
  • Clean coding habits, attention to detail, and a focus on quality and best practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience contributing to open source is a plus.
  • Experience working in a multinational company is a plus.
