We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join the Snap Media Platform team!

What you’ll do:

  • Help define the technical vision for the media encoding/transcoding domain for the Snapchat media platform. 

  • Build cutting edge media encoding/transcoding technologies to improve Snapchat user media experience and save media cost.

  • Build and grow a team of exceptional software engineers and technical leaders and be a strong technical mentor

  • Work cross functionally with data scientists, product & engineering partners to gather feature asks & set up a long term roadmap for media backend systems.

  • Influence key decisions and tradeoffs on architecture and implementation of media backend systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong computer science fundamentals and technical skills

  • Proficient in making data-driven decisions in complex technical problems.

  • Ability to lead and represent the team’s goals and projects with cross-functional business partners and leaders

  • Proven track record of operating highly-available backend systems at scale

  • Proven track record of optimizing media/video experience and saving cost at scale

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science or equivalent years of practical work experience

  • 8+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience; or a Master’s degree in a technical field + 7+ year of post-grad software development experience; or a PhD in a related technical field + 4+ years of post-grad software development experience

  • 1+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience working in software engineering

  • Experience in building media processing and encoding/transcoding pipelines.

  • Experience in building large scale media management and delivery systems.

  • Experience in media quality around VMAF, Non reference VQA, Encoder optimizations.

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $229,000-$343,000 annually.


 

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $218,000-$326,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $195,000-$292,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
