The Team

Join SUSE's globally distributed L3 team of expert Linux developers who serve as the technical backbone for resolving critical software defects reported by enterprise customers and partners. Our team orchestrates complex defect resolution processes across SUSEs product ecosystem, from deep kernel-level issues to sophisticated cloud infrastructure challenges, encompassing applications, web servers, storage solutions, and the intricate networking technologies that bind these systems together.

About You

You are a Linux enthusiast with curiosity for understanding complex systems and interest in learning from others. Your troubleshooting skills enable you to work on technical challenges across Linux and open-source environments. You thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams while tackling intricate bugs and system-level problems, working both independently and alongside other Linux engineers. 

Key Responsibilities

As an L3 Support Engineer, you will handle critical technical initiatives including:

  • Problem Resolution: Evaluate, reproduce, and analyze customer-reported scenarios and code defects

  • Technical Collaboration: Work with cross-team bug resolution processes while actively contributing to solution development and implementation

  • System Analysis: Conduct technical analysis of issues in Linux-based software products, with focus on kernel and networking components

  • Code Development: Develop, test, and publish patches and fixes for production systems

  • CVE Management: Support the kernel sentinel team in managing high-volume CVE assessments and coordinate backporting efforts for SLE customers

  • Infrastructure Evolution: Contribute to the strategic development of software infrastructure that drives team operational excellence

  • Customer Support: Provide L3 support to Technical and Premium customer support teams

Required Qualifications

You have experience in problem-solving with the ability to take ownership of technical issues. Your core skills include:

  • Programming Skills: Experience in C programming, debugging, and code analysis

  • Linux Experience: Hands-on experience with Linux systems

  • Networking Knowledge: Understanding of TCP/IP and networking technologies

  • Kernel Understanding: Knowledge of Linux kernel concepts and debugging techniques

  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written English communication skills

  • Debugging Skills: Knowledge of Linux debugging tools and techniques

  • Professional Skills: Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Containerization: Hands-on experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms

  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire new technologies and adapt to evolving technical landscapes

  • Independence: Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards

Preferred Qualifications

The following additional skills significantly strengthen your candidacy:

  • Scripting Languages: Proficiency in Perl, Python, Bash, or other automation languages

  • Programming Versatility: Knowledge of C++, assembly language, or other low-level programming languages

  • Kernel Development: Understanding of Linux kernel internals and development practices

  • Package Management: Experience with RPM packaging, distribution management, and software deployment

  • Virtualization Technologies: Experience with XEN, KVM, QEMU, Libvirt, and related virtualization platforms

  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Hyper-V, and other enterprise cloud technologies

  • Open Source Contribution: Active participation as an open-source community contributions

  • Hardware Integration: Strong understanding of hardware architecture and its interaction with operating system components
