We built Tempus to collect, structure, and organize data from disparate sources to power innovation and discovery. And now we are looking for a Key Account Director to join our rapidly growing Life Sciences Diagnostics (Dx) and Research Services team. This role will focus on creating and expanding our global client relationship with some of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical organizations.
The Key Account Director is responsible for cultivating and growing Tempus partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients to support them in advancing their research, clinical and/or commercial programs. The diagnostic (Dx) segment of the Tempus Precision Medicine Platform—which includes sequencing diagnostics, companion diagnostics (CDx) development, multiomics, and CRO partnerships—is central to the future of scalable drug development and the broader realization of personalized medicine. The Key Account Director will collaborate across teams at Tempus to position the company as the preferred Precision Medicine Partner for key accounts.
Responsibilities
Develop and Drive global account strategy in coordination with our scientific and business operations teams
Meet and exceed revenue goals for Tempus Dx and CRO product lines at the account while delivering on established strategic objectives for specific client accounts
Build and maintain executive and R&D relationships & drive our CXO strategy leveraging Tempus senior leadership
Become an expert in the partner’s strategy, pipeline and portfolio to proactively determine all areas that the Tempus platform could be leveraged for advancing innovation
Negotiate, secure and manage pull-through of contracts with assigned client accounts
Align the cross functional team of Product Specialists, partner Key Account Directors (KADs), Translational Researchers and Commercial Operations to most efficiently identify and deliver value at our clients
Partner with our clients to develop and announce impactful case studies leveraging the Tempus Dx and CRO platforms to advance precision medicine
Contribute to the development of the Life Sciences portfolio by providing feedback to Leadership regarding client responses and suggestions; maintain a solution-oriented mindset
Track progress against defined strategic objectives and revenue goals; review progress/setbacks frequently with broader Account Team and Tempus Leadership
Travel approximately 30% of working time, domestically and internationally

Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Business Development and Sales within the Life Sciences sector, serving as the primary account and manager (Pharma/Biotech)
Ideally, 5+ years of experience working with organizations that support Life Sciences companies in R&Dt and/or diagnostic solutions used in clinical trial selection.
Strong knowledge of the drug and diagnostic regulatory approval processes, both in the U.S. and internationally.
Deep understanding of clinical trial design, execution, and timelines.
Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with clients, acting as a strategic advisor.
Proven success in negotiating and closing large, complex, multi-year agreements.
Bachelor degree in a Science or Business discipline; Advanced degree (MBA, PhD or Healthcare certification) desired

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
