Analog Devices is developing advanced grid intelligence hardware and software to transform electricity distribution networks through real time monitoring analytics and edge based insights. As part of the continued expansion of our engineering capability we are seeking an Insights Modules Engineer to develop the core algorithms that power Analog Devices edge based fault and network insight modules.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering innovative customer focused solutions that transform utility operations and create measurable value for distribution system operators.
The Insights Modules Engineer will be a systems and algorithms specialist with deep expertise in digital signal processing embedded systems and electronics. This is a hands on engineering role requiring strong hardware awareness system level troubleshooting capability and solid programming fundamentals. The successful candidate will work closely with firmware engineers hardware developers and power systems engineers to deliver high performance insight modules focused on electrical fault analysis including distance to fault estimation and advanced waveform analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of core signal processing and analytics algorithms for Analog Devices edge based insight modules.
Develop and validate algorithms for electrical fault detection classification and distance to fault estimation using high resolution waveform and power system data.
Translate power system theory and field requirements into efficient real time digital signal processing implementations suitable for embedded platforms.
Prototype algorithms in MATLAB or Python and transition validated designs into production ready C or C plus plus implementations in collaboration with the firmware team.
Work closely with hardware engineers to ensure algorithms are optimised for real world sensor characteristics noise profiles sampling constraints and system limitations.
Contribute to system architecture decisions ensuring robust hardware software interaction and stable embedded deployment.
Perform system level bring up integration and debugging across hardware firmware and algorithm layers.
Design and execute laboratory validation strategies using oscilloscopes signal generators and other electronic test equipment to verify performance under realistic fault and network scenarios.
Collaborate with power systems engineers to refine models and ensure algorithms align with distribution network operational behaviour.
Document algorithm design validation results and system performance in a clear and structured manner suitable for both internal engineering and customer facing contexts.
Essential Requirements:
PhD or Masters degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing or a closely related discipline.
Strong background in digital signal processing including filtering spectral analysis time frequency methods and system identification.
Proven experience developing and validating complex algorithms for real world hardware systems.
Strong programming skills in C, C plus plus, MATLAB and Python with experience transitioning prototype algorithms into embedded implementations.
Hands on experience with embedded Linux based systems and system level debugging.
Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals including analogue and digital signal chains data converters and RF or high frequency signal environments.
Experience with system integration bring up and cross functional hardware software debugging.
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation including oscilloscopes ,spectrum analysers and signal generators.
Ability to work collaboratively with firmware hardware and domain engineers in a multidisciplinary environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Full driving licence and ability to work on site in Dublin.
Desirable Experience:
Experience developing algorithms for communications RF or high frequency systems.
Experience with power systems signal analysis or protection related algorithms.
Experience publishing technical articles patents or peer reviewed research.
Experience working in environments where hardware constraints and real time requirements drive algorithm design decisions.
Experience with OpenDSS, PowerFactory or similar power systems modelling tools.
