As Head of Credit and C&R you will manage the Credit and Collections & Recovery teams to deliver timely commercially balanced credit recommendations within stated credit parameters to colleagues / credit committee and to make credit decisions that are within your own authority level. You will focus on medium-sized ticket transactions (typically between €500K and €10M, but occasionally far larger).

Day to day:

  • Lead and manage the Credit team to ensure smooth operation of the credit approval process. Ensure customer credit applications are reviewed in accordance with company risk appetite and credit policies. 
  • Prepare credit application reports as a sound basis for decision-making by senior risk officers and risk committee.
  • While your team will be responsible for flow business up to €500k, you will be expected to have experience in writing high-quality credit applications and reviews for larger exposures. 
  • Oversee and manage the Collections and Recoveries team to manage collections and minimise overdue debts. In this regard you will have experience of managing out difficult cases and also understand the European Banking Authority definition of default obligations and procedures.
  • Initiate and support ongoing development of automated decisioning models to meet both local and DLL Group targets
  • Support and contribute to ongoing fraud awareness and training
  • Oversee the Risk Control Framework (RCF) as applies to Credit, C&R and some broader risk areas
  • Oversee portfolio performance and minimise bad debts through proactive collection strategies. 
  • Support the management of our Commercial Finance portfolio through continuous assessment / monitoring of both new and existing credit lines. Support the efficient operation of Commercial Finance to help minimise any operational incidents
  • Oversee and manage the DLL Ireland portfolio. This includes ongoing and regular reporting requirements in relation to portfolio quality and performance 
  • Represent the Risk function in local credit and risk committees.
  • Support on-boarding of acceptable new vendor/supplier programs from a Risk & Credit perspective
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at transaction level (e.g. Consumer Protection Code, SME Regulations).
  • Act as a point of guidance to wider Operations / Commercial teams.
  • Complete or review annual large exposure reviews which includes scoring, rating and annual re-ratings.
  • Support process improvement, using lean approach.

Essentials:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in credit management at a credit institution or financial institution.
  • Strong financial acumen with expert understanding of credit review and management.
  • Experience in analysing and executing large value structured transactions across various industries / sectors.
  • Advanced financial analysis skills, with a thorough understanding of key financial metrics such as repayment ability, profitability, and operational performance. Also having a strong understanding of industry risk, asset risk and structure risk.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth evaluations, offer expert recommendations, and craft compelling credit memos for senior management.
  • Commercially aware with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Organized and task-focused problem solver, comfortable working in complex environments.
  • Friendly and approachable member who is able to network and help encourage enthusiasm in colleagues, customers and team members to agree and reach common goals.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with ability to provide regular updates on lending activities and offering strategic insights to senior management and the Board.
  • Capable of maintaining effective relationships with customers, team members and internal stakeholders.
  • Willing to “go the extra mile” when required, via a flexible / adaptable approach to daily workload.
  • Confident to engage in discussions with end user clients in relation to structuring credit requests.
  • Qualified Financial Analyst qualification (QFA) or equivalent qualification.
