💻 Role

The Payments - Experience team at Whatnot are globally responsible for creating each order, gathering every payment from customers across multiple local and global payment methods, returns, refunds and more. We are deeply connected with the foundations of our business and unlock tremendous growth while creating exciting new ways for our users to transact. You’ll collaborate closely with our sibling team, Payments - Treasury, as well as with other teams and senior leaders across Whatnot while doing so. 
To achieve these goals, we’re looking to make a number of substantial improvements to our systems including critical areas of the business like payment scale & reliability, increased payment options, fraud mitigation, and advanced shipping options and improved delivery times with a focus on providing a seamless international marketplace.

As our next Fullstack Engineer, you should have 5+ years of software engineering experience, particularly with a strong emphasis on JavaScript, web frameworks such as Next.js, and modern frontend applications, as these are key aspects of this role that we highly value. You also:

  • Have knowledge of multiple programming languages
  • Are open to doing backend work when required
  • Have excellent product instincts. You first think about users rather than the best technical solution
  • Can mentor others and prioritize building inclusive, supportive teams
  • Are a project owner - you’ve strong ownership instincts and can own projects from inception to production and beyond
  • Can ship products and features lightning-fast
  • Are an excellent problem solver and don’t need to be told exactly what to do
  • Have the ability to pick up on new technologies very quickly
  • Have a proven track record of delivering features 
  • Have experience with payment systems, infrastructure, experiences, and international commerce (nice to have)
  • Have a startup experience at a high-growth company (nice to have)
