JOB SUMMARY

Develop short-, medium- and long-term demand/sales forecasts that enable and support Gilchrist & Soames internal manufacturing, procurement, distribution, sales and marketing operations in attaining established financial and service objectives.  The objective is to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance forecasting models to improve customer satisfaction, optimize inventory turns and reduce risks for aged inventory.  Reports to the Senior Manager Operational Planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Forecasting of all Gilchrist and Soames SKUs using forecasting software to compile/analyze sales data and prepare a forecast based on historic trends, future expectations, current conditions (marketing efforts, promotions, industry trends).
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and other departments to gather impactful future business insights/ intelligence and refine system generated forecast assumptions by incorporating the data into the statistical forecasting modeling tools. Insights up to and including Changes in customer ordering patterns (subbing, collection switches); New business pipeline(s) and known existing business loss/ changes; Market Occupancy rates (increases/ decreases/ changes); Changes to licensed brand partner contracts/ customer contracts.
  • Serves as a two-way communications point of contact for Forecasting information between Production, Procurement, Sales/Marketing/PD, Distribution and Finance on forecasting topics including but not limited to production levels, consumption levels and product launch timing. Keep Procurement and production teams informed of impactful changes to demand forecasts for items relative to forecast.
  • Implements communication and performance enhancements to ongoing forecasting processes and systems. Communication to include monthly forecast and new business pipeline meetings. Establishes forecasting KPIs for forecast accuracy. Generates and publishes monthly KPI reports showing accuracy, variance (root cause of variance if known), impact of variance, and recommendations for corrective actions if needed. 
  • Responsible for the monthly and annual forecasting processes, the refining of forecast tool model parameters and any forecast tool needed user maintenance. Develops, creates and maintains documentation of assumptions driving the forecasted volumes and assists with presentations relating to the forecast and environmental impacts on the forecast.
  • Assist with pilot, rollout, maintenance and enhancements of demand planning system. Review and manage statistical model exceptions, conduct current and future forecasting analysis, ensuring forecasting processes and methods are followed and updated as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • Bachelor degree.

Experience

  • Minimum of 0-3 years forecasting using various forecasting techniques and algorithms in consumer products or related environment.
  • Strong to advanced technical proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Proficient in Forecasting and ERP/MRP software applications.
  • Experience with Statistical forecasting techniques.
  • Previous project-based and experiential learning opportunities involving Demand Planning and Sales/Product Forecasting Solutions.

  • Knowledge of the manufacturing industry.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to problem-solve and use judgment to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Working knowledge of the management of integrated forecast planning systems.
  • Ability to use forecasting systems to develop strategic and tactical solutions.
  • Smart Forecast, PC based forecasting software knowledge, helpful but not mandatory.
  • Detail-oriented with systems and numbers aptitude.
  • Sound analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Assertive with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Able to prioritize and work well under pressure.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, console, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

  • This position will primarily work in an office.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • This position may require overtime depending on business needs.
