Description

TrueLayer is looking for an experienced Financial Crimes Investigator to join our team as a Financial Crime Advisory Lead. In this role, you will play a key part in strengthening our first line of defence against money laundering and financial crime.

We are seeking an AML subject matter expert with a deep understanding of financial crime typologies, trends, and regulatory frameworks. The ideal candidate will have expertise in detecting, analysing, and reporting suspicious activity, as well as improving transaction monitoring systems and fraud prevention strategies.

As our Investigation Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct complex financial crime investigations, preparing detailed reports that outline risks and recommendations.
  • Identify and analyse financial crime typologies and trends, sharing insights with the wider team.
  • Oversee counter-fraud activities, including monitoring and improving merchant fraud management processes.
  • Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the relevant Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
  • Assist in refining transaction monitoring rules and scenarios to align with a risk-based approach.
  • Support the review and enhancement of AML/CTF policies and procedures.
  • Assess new products and services, identifying any necessary risk mitigations to maintain compliance.
  • Respond to law enforcement requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide expert guidance and act as a point of escalation for team members and other stakeholders.
  • Work towards key performance indicators (KPIs) and support accurate reporting for senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Requirements

What we expect from you:

  • Experience conducting complex financial crime investigations -reviewing transaction monitoring alerts, conducting analysis on potential hits to determine whether further investigation is required. 
  • Ability to present findings on clients following an investigation, including a comprehensive assessment on the financial crime risks and recommendations (e.g. customer exit). 
  • Ability to effectively identify trends and emerging typologies that can be used to enhance transaction monitoring rules in place.
  • You have experience in the implementation of improvements to Transaction Monitoring systems, rules and processes.
  • You should have an understanding of money laundering typologies (including fraud), across a range of products and services/ different customer types.
  • You should have experience in writing and submitting SARs to FIUs. 
  • You should have experience dealing with requests from law enforcement. 

We would be really excited if you have:

  • Experience handling and analysing large data sets.
  • Proficiency in SQL or similar tools, with experience in data visualisation/dashboard development.
  • Experience conducting transaction monitoring reviews for high-risk sectors such as eCommerce, iGaming, or gambling.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU AML/CTF legislation (global AML/CTF knowledge is a plus).
  • A recognised Financial Crime qualification.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, technology, or related industries.
  • Exposure to high-growth, fast-paced environments such as startups.
