Vaayu helps brands and retailers track and reduce their environmental footprint.

We’re looking for an experienced sustainability reporting professional to join our Product team and act as Vaayu’s expert internal advisor on ESG reporting.

Our Mission

We have until 2030 to reduce global emissions by more than half if we are to keep global average temperature rises to 1.5 degrees celsius. Contributions to solving the climate crisis have never been more important.

At Vaayu, we are committed to supporting the decarbonisation of the retail industry, and helping organisations operate within planetary boundaries. Our tools help brands and retailers measure their environmental footprint, and provide clear guidance on the effective reduction measures necessary to reduce this impact where possible.

We are a team of sustainability experts, technologists, product and retail specialists with a passion for the environment. At Vaayu, our mission is to use technology as a force for good.

Our Values

  • Environmental. The Earth is our protagonist. Protecting it is at the center of everything we do.
  • Collaborative. We believe in people. The bigger our network, the bigger our impact. Climate change affects us all, but by working collaboratively we know we can make a difference within retail, and beyond.
  • Honest. Our voice is informative and authentic. We want to share what we are working on, be open about the challenges, and build an ecosystem that creates change.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced sustainability reporting professional who possesses strong knowledge and practical experience with leading ESG reporting standards. This includes both mandatory requirements such as the EU CSRD but also third-party frameworks such as ISSB, TCFD, SASB, and GRI. In this cross-functional role, you’ll act as Vaayu’s expert internal advisor on ESG reporting, and partner closely with our product managers, software developers and impact accounting specialists to ensure that Vaayu’s platform empowers our retail customers to generate results in line with their ESG reporting needs.

Applicants should have excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills, with a proven track record of supporting large corporate and financial sector customers (e.g. Fortune Global 500 / blue chip), whether internally or as an external advisor with a major consulting firm. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be adaptable, highly collaborative, and enjoy working on best-in-class solutions to complex problems.

This is a fully remote role that reports to our Head of Product.

What this looks like (responsibilities)

  • Act as the go-to internal expert regarding technical ESG reporting requirements to ensure our business and products are aligned with relevant standards.
  • Track developments and build expert knowledge together with Vaayu’s in-house sustainability counsel and strategy experts on the interplay of emerging ESG reporting requirements across a range of global jurisdictions.
  • Work together with Vaayu’s product, engineering, science and compliance teams to design user-friendly ESG reporting solutions.

Who we’re looking for (qualifications)

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience in the field of ESG reporting (at a major consulting/audit firm, or in-house at a large corporation) with direct responsibility for implementing and complying with leading ESG reporting standards.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting requirements, including third-party standards and frameworks such as the GRI, SASB, TCFD and ISSB, as well as mandatory requirements such as the EU CSRD/ESRS, EU Taxonomy, EU SFDR, and CSDDD.
  • Experience at all stages in the ESG reporting process, from guiding companies through materiality assessments to third-party auditing and assurance.
  • Knowledge of global supply chains and information collection challenges, developed through practical experience collecting ESG data for reporting.
  • Demonstrated project management and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex and nuanced reporting requirements into digestible formats for a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Additional useful experience

  • Previous experience working with technology teams and programming skills are considered a plus.
  • An advanced academic degree or relevant professional certification in a compliance or sustainability-related field is considered a plus.

What we can offer you

  • Opportunity to acquire equity in a fast growing business
  • Work at a mission-driven start-up with sustainability experts
  • Be flexible and remote-first, working from wherever you feel most inspired
  • Collaborate with a diverse, open-minded and international team
  • Grow and develop within an expanding team of entrepreneurial experts

Vaayu is an equal opportunity employer. We do not believe in discrimination of any kind and are proud to have an international team from over 27+ different countries. We nurture an inclusive and collaborative environment for all and are committed to reflecting a diverse range of backgrounds, experience and thinking.
