At AECOM, we are currently recruiting for an Environmental Specialist to join our Dublin office.

The environmental specialist will provide comprehensive environmental expertise across the programme and within the Infrastructure Department. Working as part of the strategy team, the role will lead the early integration of environmental assessments and considerations into planning projects and policy submissions; ensure compliance; enhance decision making; and driving positive planning, environmental and sustainability outcomes.

Planning Applications and Process

  • Support the planning team on environmental matters in the management of planning applications and statutory submissions.

  • Coordinate and review environmental inputs for planning applications, compliance documentation, and statutory submissions, including post-planning requirements.

  • Lead or contribute to the preparation of environmental reports, including but not limited to:

    • Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) and Screening Assessments

    • Natura Impact Statements (NIS) / Appropriate Assessments (AA)

    • Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments

    • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)

    • Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Reports and Screening Assessments

    • Sustainability Reports

    • Environmental Resource Management Plans

    • Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP)

    • Carbon Assessments

Technical Assessment and Assurance

  • Provide technical environmental advice to ensure planning and project documentation meets regulatory standards and reflects current legislation, policy, and case law.

  • Review and assure technical reports, modelling outputs, and drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and robust assumptions.

Stakeholder and Regulator Engagement

  • Support engagement with planning authorities, statutory consultees, and stakeholders on environmental matters, including ongoing reporting where required.

  • Prepare materials and participate in public consultations and pre-planning meetings, presenting complex technical issues in clear, evidence-based formats.

  • Coordinate with project managers, planners, engineers, designers, consultants, and environmental specialists across Infrastructure and the daa Group to ensure effective mitigation measures, environmental management, and cross-functional communication.

Environmental Risk and Opportunity Management

  • Identify, assess, and communicate environmental risks associated with infrastructure projects.

  • Identify opportunities for environmental improvements during project development, including carbon reduction, resource efficiency, and climate resilience measures.

  • Track environmental dependencies and critical path items, such as ecological survey windows and seasonal constraints.

  • Ensure environmental planning conditions are considered and integrated throughout all stages of project development.

Surveys, Data, and Evidence

  • Scope ecological and environmental surveys; support project managers in commissioning consultants and managing deliverables to ensure robust methodologies and outputs.

  • Maintain and enhance document control processes, ensuring high data quality, version control, and clear audit trails for environmental decisions.

Policy, Standards, and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor relevant Irish and EU legislation, policy, guidance, and case law, updating internal guidance and best practices accordingly.

  • Identify opportunities to contribute to environmental policy submissions, working collaboratively with other daa departments, including the corporate environmental and sustainability function, to ensure alignment and avoid duplication.

  • Contribute to the development of standard templates, checklists, and training to promote consistency and efficiency across planning processes.

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly experienced professional with a strong background in infrastructure and environmental planning.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
