Role Summary: 

F5 is looking for an ambitious and technically skilled Software Engineering Manager to join our growing AI Security team. In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of Frontend, Backend, and QA engineers tasked with delivering cutting-edge AI security features within F5's Guardrails and Red Team products. As a leader, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of scalable, high-performance, and secure solutions while empowering your team to excel and grow.  

Your leadership will drive every aspect of the software development lifecycle, ensuring that the architecture is scalable, the code is robust, and the team operates effectively and efficiently. You will partner with Product Management, UX Designers, and Data Scientists to align technical solutions with F5’s strategic goals and deliver innovative, customer-focused results.  

Our stack leverages modern technologies, including Vue 3 (TypeScript), Python (FastAPI), and Playwright for automated quality testing.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Delivery and Execution 

  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of features across the AI Security team’s product offerings, ensuring projects are completed with high quality, performance, and within scheduled timelines.  

  • Continuously improve development processes, ensuring the team operates within an efficient and scalable Agile workflow 

  • Define and track project milestones, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to avoid roadblocks. 

Leadership and Team Development 

  • Manage, mentor, and coach a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, career growth, and high performance.  

  • Provide guidance and technical oversight in solving complex engineering challenges, empowering team members to innovate.  

  • Recruit, onboard, and scale the team effectively, supporting individual career development and ensuring alignment with F5’s business objectives. 

Technical Oversight and Strategy 

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Data Scientists to shape product vision, ensuring it aligns with both technical feasibility and customer needs.  

  • Provide high-level architectural guidance, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing systems.  

  • Lead discussions around frontend and backend architecture, design patterns, and web application scaling strategies. 

Partnership and Collaboration 

  • Engage cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support stakeholders, translating ideas into actionable technical solutions.  

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, presenting complex technical concepts in a way that ensures alignment and understanding. 

Quality and Process Efficiency 

  • Ensure high technical standards by overseeing code reviews, testing strategies, and deployment processes to ensure robust and reliable systems.  

  • Actively contribute to the adoption of DevOps best practices, driving automation and reliability in F5's product delivery processes.  

  • Promote innovation in the full software development lifecycle by regularly evaluating and adopting new tools and methodologies. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

Leadership Experience 

  • 2-3 years of experience in an engineering management role, with a proven track record of effectively leading multidisciplinary teams in delivering software projects.  

  • Experience in team scaling and recruitment, while building a collaborative and inclusive team culture. 

Technical Background 

  • 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, including extensive experience with frontend and backend web application delivery 

  • Architectural Expertise: Advanced knowledge of frontend/backend application architecture, design patterns, scalability, and performance tuning.  

  • Proficiency in web frameworks such as Vue 3, React, FastAPI, or Django, with hands-on experience leading teams through large, scalable projects. 

Agile and Process Focused 

  • Proven ability to lead Agile workflows, managing sprints and ensuring product development stays on track.  

  • Focused on improving process accuracy and reducing inefficiencies, driving accountability and structure in software delivery. 

Communication Skills 

  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike, ensuring alignment and clarity across the organization. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience building and maintaining SaaS and hosted applications, including scaling systems across global infrastructures.  

  • Familiarity with security domains, AI-driven applications, and managing hybrid or remote teams across different time zones.  

  • Proficiency in modern platform and infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).  

  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks such as Playwright or Selenium, and experience ensuring QA excellence within Agile teams.  

  • Background in building and delivering AI-powered or security-focused products.

  • Demonstrate technical leadership by ensuring product quality, process efficiency, and robust architecture to meet F5’s high standards.
