Engineering Manager
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to enhance and optimize the technical project, people, release, and support management for Harvester. Harvester is an open-source hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software powered by cutting-edge cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes, KubeVirt, and Longhorn. It serves as an open-source alternative to vSphere and Nutanix.
We’re looking for a passionate individual who thrives on working with system-level software and open-source projects. In this role, you’ll help elevate technologies within Harvester, Longhorn, and Rancher. Join our team to deliver groundbreaking open-source solutions and contribute to the container revolution!
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the team, boosting productivity through automation-focused strategies.
- Plan and oversee Harvester releases, ensuring consistent, on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with support teams to address customer issue escalations effectively.
- Facilitate cross-team cooperation for feature delivery and knowledge sharing.
- Foster team growth, driving continuous improvement and sustained success.
Preferred Experience & Skills

Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Go, Rust, C/C++, or similar statically typed languages.
- Proven experience in people management.
- Demonstrated expertise in release management.
- Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies.
- Experience with Agile development practices.
- Background in remote work and managing teams across multiple time zones.
- Track record of technically leading feature development, improvements, and bug fixes with engineering teams.
- Experience collaborating with support teams to resolve escalations.
- Success in addressing technical debt and enhancing team productivity.
- Knowledge of system-level software, virtualization, software-defined storage/networking, distributed systems, and open-source development.
- Experience developing solutions based on Kubernetes or similar platforms.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
- 2+ years of experience in team management.
- 8+ years of experience in system software development on Linux and distributed systems.
- Enthusiasm for tackling diverse technological challenges—ready to learn, resolve, and grow.
- A proactive “can-do” attitude to drive impactful change.
- Hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution.
- An automation mindset, committed to streamlining processes for improved productivity.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships with internal teams, external partners, and candidates.
