Title: Director, Energy Development, EMEA

The Director, Energy Development, EMEA will be responsible for managing energy strategy, power capacity delivery, infrastructure investment, as well as work directly with applicable utilities for EdgeConneX data centers in the Americas.  On top of that, the Director will be highly involved in managing capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects, as well as support the Site Acquisition team by providing energy input and perspective when evaluating new, potential data center sites.  This position can be based remotely in EMEA where we currently have infrastructure.  Those locations are listed in the posting.  It will require 50% travel at peak, so being adaptable to the demand driven by our growth is required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into sales opportunities for the business.
  • Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to accelerate delivery of power capacity optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader EdgeConneX strategies and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy and projects in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of regulations of energy and power infrastructure markets across EMEA
  • Strong communications, both written and verbal, in leading teams and coordinating with peers and other disciplines on driving projects/issues to closure
  • Commitment to organizational excellence and constant awareness to seek opportunities to improve processes/quality of deliverables
  • Superb ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/responsibilities
  • Superb ability to meet committed timelines, leveraging assistance/input from peers
  • Strong and effective team player in working with various disciplines and peer groups; run the gamut of tasks required to get the job done
  • Strong attention to detail

Experience/Education

  • 10+ years of professional experience within Energy sector with extensive negotiation and procurement expertise with major utilities (and power generation) across EMEA
  • 2+ years of experience working within a hyperscale data center environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, or education applicable to the data center industry
  • Strong track record of grid manager relationships is highly preferred
