The Role

As the Head of Artificial Intelligence (AI), you will work closely with technical peers across the Data & AI organisation, and a broad set of company stakeholders, to define and deliver our future state AI capabilities that clearly differentiate our solutions and enable Cubic to become disproportionately productive as the business scales.

Your role will be pivotal in delivering AI capabilities that enable solutions delivering substantial value to our customers and transformation to our internal operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Data & AI Products team to assess feasibility and shape the roadmap for AI-enabled product features, aligned to business priorities.

  • Build and lead a team of AI Engineers to design, develop and deploy custom AI-driven solutions that address well-defined business problems and opportunities.

  • Define our target AI architecture with associated best practices and standards for AI model development, evaluation and deployment, ensuring long term sustainability.

  • Work closely with Technology leaders to ensure AI solutions are production-ready, performant and integrated into the broader technology stack.

  • Stay ahead of AI trends, tools and regulations to inform strategic investment decisions and inspire innovation across the team and business.

  • Provide AI expertise in cross-functional forums, supporting governance, risk, and compliance efforts where AI is in scope.

  • Promote and support adoption of AI tools across internal functions through stakeholder education, proof-of-concepts and advocacy.

Requirements

Basic Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading applied AI/ML teams and initiatives in a commercial environment, ideally at a product-oriented company.

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies and techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, natural language processing and model explainability.

  • Proven ability to translate business challenges into AI solutions that scale, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes.

  • Collaborative mindset with experience working in close partnership with Product, Engineering and Business teams.

  • Strong understanding of MLOps principles and familiarity with modern machine learning tooling (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, etc.).

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with senior and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience of data governance, privacy and ethical AI practices.

  • Experience evaluating third-party AI solutions and integrating vendor tools when appropriate.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field.

Additional, optional requirements:

  • Experience of working in IoT, telecommunications, automotive or connectivity domains.

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science or related field is a plus.
