Healthcare fraud costs the United States more than $100 billion annually, and increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled schemes are accelerating the scale and complexity of the problem.
We are building an AI-native platform that prevents fraudulent payments. The Intelligent Fraud & Abuse Suite combines real-time claims intelligence, network-level fraud detection, and AI-assisted investigations to help payers predict, detect, and prevent fraud before it happens.
This role sits at the intersection of advanced applied AI, healthcare fraud domain expertise, and enterprise product leadership. The individual in this position will define how modern machine learning, network analytics, and large language model systems are translated into scalable, production-grade capabilities which deliver measurable financial impact at industry scale.
The ideal candidate has shipped sophisticated AI systems in production environments and is equally comfortable partnering with data scientists and engaging with client executives. This leader will translate complex fraud patterns and client needs into clear AI product strategy, guide iterative model development with ML and analytics teams, and ensure capabilities are delivered with rigor, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
Role Overview:
The AI Product Manager owns end-to-end strategy and execution for critical AI-driven fraud prevention capabilities. This leader will:
  • Translate complex fraud schemes, risk signals, and investigative outcomes into clear, scalable AI product strategy
  • Partner closely with data scientists and ML engineers to shape modeling approaches, experimentation plans, and production deployment
  • Define evaluation frameworks that connect model performance to measurable business impact
  • Deliver differentiated capabilities that leverage advances in machine learning, graph analytics, and LLM-enabled systems

This is a high-visibility role with direct influence on platform architecture, client outcomes, and long-term product strategy.
Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.
Primary Responsibilities:
AI Product Strategy and Roadmap
  • Define and drive the roadmap for AI-powered fraud detection and prevention capabilities
  • Identify where advanced approaches - including deep learning, network analytics, LLM's, and multi-agent systems - create sustainable competitive advantage
  • Prioritize investments based on measurable impact, technical feasibility, and market opportunity

Translation of Fraud Intelligence into AI Systems
  • Conduct deep discovery with payer clients, SIU teams, and investigators
  • Internalize evolving fraud typologies, billing behaviors, and adversarial tactics
  • Convert domain insights into structured problem definitions and modeling hypotheses
  • Partner with technical teams to translate these hypotheses into production-grade AI capabilities

Iterative AI Development and Delivery
  • Lead experimentation cycles from hypothesis through validation and controlled release
  • Establish performance metrics aligned to financial outcomes and operational efficiency
  • Embed monitoring, model governance, and feedback loops into deployed systems
  • Ensure continuous improvement as fraud schemes evolve
  • Executive and Client Engagement Communicate complex AI concepts clearly and credibly to executive stakeholders
  • Connect model metrics to financial and operational ROI
  • Represent the product in strategic client discussions and industry forums

Responsible and Compliant AI
  • Ensure AI systems meet regulatory, audit, and governance requirements
  • Champion explainability, bias monitoring, and appropriate human oversight
  • Balance innovation with enterprise-grade reliability

Team Leadership and Collaboration
  • Lead a small, high-leverage team (typically 1-3 direct reports) responsible for advancing key AI capabilities within the Intelligent Fraud & Abuse suite
  • Operate as a hands-on leader and player-coach - working directly with data scientists, ML engineers, and investigators while developing the next generation of product leaders
  • Collaborate closely with peer product leaders building adjacent platform capabilities to ensure cohesive system design and rapid iteration
  • Build a culture of ownership, experimentation, and high standards where a focused team can deliver outsized impact
  • This position offers the opportunity to shape how advanced AI is applied to one of the most consequential financial challenges in U.S. healthcare. It is designed for a product leader who combines deep technical fluency with strategic clarity and the ability to translate complexity into measurable outcomes

You will be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role, as well as providing development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven delivery of AI products at scale: Product leadership experience delivering AI/ML-driven capabilities in production environments and driving measurable business impact
  • AI product fluency: Proven solid understanding of modern AI and machine learning approaches - including deep learning, graph/network analytics, and transformer/LLM-enabled systems - and how they are integrated in market-facing products. You are comfortable working closely with data scientists and ML engineers to translate business problems into modeling strategies and deploy AI capabilities at scale
  • Translation capability across technical and business domains: Proven experience converting ambiguous, high-complexity problems into structured modeling strategies and iterative product releases in close partnership with data science and engineering teams
  • Enterprise product judgment: Proven experience taking AI capabilities from concept through scaled deployment, including defining success metrics, managing tradeoffs, and aligning cross-functional stakeholders
  • Executive-level communication skills: Proven ability to engage credibly with senior client stakeholders while maintaining deep trust with technical teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven experience in healthcare fraud, payment integrity, risk adjustment, or similarly complex risk domains
  • Proven background as a data scientist, ML engineer, or advanced analytics practitioner prior to product leadership
  • Proven experience working with large-scale claims data, healthcare coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), or network-based fraud detection
  • Demonstrated familiarity with LLM-enabled workflows, retrieval-augmented systems, or AI-assisted investigation tools in enterprise environments
  • Proven experience operating in regulated environments requiring auditability and model governance

Please note you must currently be eligible to work and remain indefinitely without any restrictions in the country to which you are making an application. Proof will be required to support your application.
