The Role:

You will underwrite commercial insurance products including PI, Cyber, Management liability, Property and Liability lines of business, within a highly successful and energized team based in Dublin. This role is key in driving profitable growth within the underwriting team, achieving broker account targets, meeting agreed service standards and key performance objectives. You will have a strong focus on building rapport and relationships with and delivering a superb service to our broker partners and will actively identify opportunities to cross-sell using market leading technology.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Significant contribution to profitable underwriting in order to achieve the overall GWP target.
  • Underwrite, price and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategy and guidelines.
  • Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties including identified points of contact with a brokerage.
  • Build relationships with key brokers and maintain a strong local market presence.
  • Maintain profitability of the account by making sound individual underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure underwriting file integrity by documenting file in line with U/W management requirement.
  • Support both the Head of Sales and Distribution and Underwriting Manager on understanding the Irish insurance landscape.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of relationship management and customer focus. Able to positively affect other people and to win and retain business.
  • Ability to communicate our products and service differentiators clearly.
  • Able to form strong relationships with senior brokers.
  • A proven track record in business development and underwriting in the local insurance market.
  • Strong market and competitor knowledge.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately and to consistently show the Hiscox ‘going the extra mile’ dedication and commitment in a fast growing and demanding area of the business.
  • Clear ability to think on your feet and make intelligent, innovative business decisions.
  • Able to make effective decisions when dealing with complex technical issues and can justify underwriting decisions.
  • Have an eye for detail and be highly focused on producing high quality work that is “right first time”.
  • Consistently demonstrate behaviours conducive to achieving both personal and team objectives in line with the core values of Hiscox.
  • Be an effective contributor to the team, ready to play any part to deliver the team and Hiscox’ overall goals.
  • Be passionate about delivering superior service.
  • Full clean driving license

Key Competencies:

  • Good knowledge of commercial underwriting process and product landscape is a plus.
  • Minimum of CIP qualified 
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related position is preferrable.
  • Good market presence and relationships with Ireland’s leading Insurance brokers.
  • Good understanding of how the Irish market and the main players and segments within it operate.
  • Good knowledge of the competitor landscape and other offerings.
  • Understanding of the Hiscox differentiators in the Financial Lines market.
  • Proficient in understanding and interpreting management information and translating this into actions.
