DevOps Engineer

Job Description Summary

As a Dev OPS Engineer, your role will be a combination of supporting production applications and proactively looking for ways to automate your discoveries, eliminate incidents from recurring and/or reduce the time it takes to get our customers back up and running. In addition, you'll focus on improving the following for our applications: availability, latency, performance, efficiency, and effective proactive monitoring. The Dev OPS engineer interfaces with business users, development teams and system administrators to ensure systems perform to meet their business needs and specifications.

Responsibilities include: Developing, coordinating, and conducting technical reliability studies on engineering designs to assess the likelihood that a product/process performs its intended function over the intended lifecycle. Measuring and analysing the reliability of the design, materials, processes, cost, and final products of production. Recommending design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability. Completing risk analysis studies of new designs and processes. Undertaking testing and analysis on failures, proposing changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Reducing the overhead of BAU and manual tasks and replacing them with automated solutions

  • Maintaining and supporting environments using monitoring tools to detect failures and investigating/resolving issues and writing custom monitoring scripts

  • Working with the development team to help design new products and architecting new solutions

  • Monitor Live environment to detect failures and investigate/resolve issues

  • Support production systems as required inside and outside of standard working hours and participating in 24x7 on-call rotas with the rest of the team

  • Actively contributing to the process of continual improvement, with regard to self, team and the systems you support

  • Working with 3rd parties and partners to ensure product compliance and stability

Skills, know-how and experience:

Must have:

  • Extensive experience of AWS

  • Extensive experience of Windows environments

  • Extensive experience of scripting languages

  • Extensive experience of Ansible

  • Extensive experience of monitoring tools (e.g. Sumo Logic, Logic Monitor, Datadog)

  • Extensive experience of automation tools

  • Extensive experience of working in a DevOps support model including Agile

  • Experience of working in a highly available, high transaction, production environment

Preferred:

  • Proven experience of payment gateways

Technical / professional qualifications:

  • Degree or industry experience

The role offers a hybrid / flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
