Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.
About your skills:Statistical Analysis & Experimentation - You can design and analyze experiments and identify causal impacts using a range of tools (like A/B tests and synthetic control) on payment and checkout flows to uncover actionable insights. You not only interpret quantitative results but also challenge assumptions and present findings that can drive business impact.
Advanced Data Fluency:
You can efficiently extract, clean, and analyze large-scale transactional datasets using advanced SQL and Python skills. You recognize patterns, diagnose anomalies, and surface key insights to inform improvements in checkout conversion, authorization rates, and payment efficiency.
Influence and Communication: You distill complex analyses into clear, compelling visualizations and narratives using tools like Tableau. You tailor your communication to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring that insights lead to informed, data-driven decisions.
Data Scientists at Udemy draw on a combination of quantitative methods and business intuition to find actionable insights that drive key business decisions, answering questions such as: What metrics should business areas be monitoring and goaling against? What are potential causes for changes in customer behavior?
You should expect to excel in several highly critical functions:Serve as subject matter expert in the payments and checkouts domain
Identify, scope, and execute on data-driven analyses to help guide business decisions
Act as a data evangelist to create a data-driven culture across the company
Success in this role requires a combination of business intuition, broad knowledge of statistical methods, practical data analysis experience, and strong communication and collaboration skills.
Collaborate with stakeholders to inform business direction
Proactively influence prioritization through data-driven insights
Design and analyze standard experiments and conduct ad hoc analyses
Define metrics and build dashboards to track product and business health

Knowledge and willingness to use the right tool (a scripted model, a dashboard, a presentation) for each analysis
3+ years of relevant experience in a combination of business/analytics roles (e.g. data science/analytics, management consulting, or business operations)
Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
Strong business intuition and judgement
Expert level data storytelling and data visualization ability
Broad knowledge of applied statistics, experimental design, and causal inference
Expert SQL ability and proficiency with 1+ programming languages (e.g., R or Python)
Experience with BI tools (e.g. Looker, PowerBI, or Tableau)
