Job Description

About this job:

As a Data Engineer, you will report to the Head of IT Risk and Reserving Applications. In this role, your primary focus will be on database engineering and SQL-based solution development (around 80%), complemented by web and API development responsibilities (around 20%). You will design, develop, and maintain high-quality solutions for both in-house applications and integrated third-party products, working closely with stakeholders on operational requests and projects.

About the role:

  • Database Development: Design, implement, and optimize SQL-based solutions, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability. Maintain and enhance database structures and integration workflows with heavy involvement in data modelling and ETL processes.
  • Application Development: Support the reserving platform which integrates a data-intensive backend with a web-based front end. Contribute to the development and maintenance of web and API components using C#.
  • Operational Support: Develop a solid understanding of critical phases in our business processes. Investigate and resolve issues efficiently while focusing on long-term stability.
  • Collaboration: Partner with business stakeholders and IT colleagues to analyse requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Testing & Documentation: Conduct thorough unit testing to deliver robust, performant applications. Maintain technical documentation and adhere to change management processes.

Qualifications

About you:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in SQL coding, database performance tuning, and data modelling is a must.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Data Virtuality is highly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of data integration and ETL processes.
  • Competence in C# web and API development for system interfacing.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of the reinsurance industry and actuarial processes is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to effectively work in a collaborative, international and cross-location team
  • Strong ownership mindset with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently with remote supervision.

Work Experience: 

  • 5–10 years of professional experience in data/database engineering with proven track record of SQL-heavy solution delivery.
  • Professional proficiency in English (written and verbal).

Education:

  • Degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field
